ALL IRELAND MINOR HURLING FINAL:
The very best of luck to Ferrybank's Mark O' Brien & MJ Sutton and indeed all the Waterford Minor Hurling team who play Galway in Sunday's All Ireland Minor Hurling Final at Croke Park. Lets hope the team can bring the cup back with them. Best of luck lads!
CAMOGIE:
Hard luck to the Waterford Under 16 Camogie team, which included our own Iona Heffernan (Captain) and Niamh Ahearne, who were defeated by Cork in the All Ireland Camogie final in Mallow on September 1st. Despite this disappointment, a bright future lies ahead for these talented hurlers and better days will come. Also a mention also to Shiner Ahearne who coached the team throughout the campaign
JUNIOR HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Junior Hurlers qualified for the semi finals of the Gerry Kennedy Crash repairs sponsored competition with a fully deserved win over a gallant Dunhill side in Walsh Park last Monday night on a scoreline of 0-12 to 0-10. There was very little between the sides in the opening quarter with the sides level on six occasions. Good scores from MJ Farrelly, Greg Murphy, Robbie Carew, Jeff Lawless and Oisin MacCatmhaoil kept Ferrybank in the hunt. But coming up to half time, Dunhill got on top and put over a couple of points, to lead by two at the break. The second half, was like the first evenly contested, with neither goalkeeper been tested, but Ferrybank started to take their scores, with Jeff & Robbie adding to the scoreboard, and with the defense playing superbly, keeping Dunhill scoreless for 25 minutes. Despite a few nervy moments, Ferrybank held on for a great win. Next up for the team is Erins Own in the semi final, which will take place on Friday 6th Sept at 6:30pm in Walsh Park. Please come along and support the team.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Our Junior Football team qualified for the semi finals of the John J Murphy sponsored competition with a 1-9 to 0-7 win over Ballyduff Lower in Fenor last Friday night. Despite missing a number of players, Ferrybank found themselves three points down early on as Ballyduff dominated the early proceedings, and could have been further ahead, but for some bad wides. However, Ferrybank settled down and began to play some good Football and clawed their way back into the game with points from the Murphy Brothers ensured Ferrybank went into half time leading by a point. Early points from Cormac Heffernan kept Ferrybank in the lead but Ballyduff kept reducing the gap as the game wore on. Ferrybank scored a crucial goal when a free dropped short in the Ballyduff area, and James Murphy latched onto the ball and planted the ball into the net. Further points from Oisin Mac and Luke Flynn ensured a good win for the team. Everyone played their part in the win, and the team can look forward to a semi final with their opponents yet to be confirmed.
DÉISE DRAW:
We had no luck in last Fridays night Déise draw which took place in Clashmore. Many thanks to all who purchased tickets on the night. Next Déise draw will take place on Friday Sept 27th in Tramore.
UNDER 8 & 9 HURLING TRAINING:
Training for the Under 8 & 9 will commence this coming Tuesday night Sept 3rd from 7-8pm. The Under 8 travelled to Danesfort last Sunday to play in the blitz. Another phenomenal performance by the kids. They stormed through the first match against Muckalee, and never looked back. The 2nd game against Bennetsbridge turned out to be a much tougher game, and we were defeated by them. Last up was a game against the hosts. The lads had a point to prove, and they rattled up countless scores to dominate proceedings. Congratulations to all, they did the parish proud on the day, and the manner in which they played the game. Many thanks to Danesfort for the invitation to this blitz, and to the fun day out.
TEAM: Adam Aspel, Shane Purcell, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Sean Fagan, Izaak Richards, Fionn McGarrity, Alex Derham, Daniel Griffin, Jacob Richards, Ruaidhri McGarrity, Kyle Daly, Conor Daly, Michael MacLaurence.
