Our Minor Hurlers were defeated by Fourmilewater 2-15 to 1-14 in the semi finals of the County Championship in Fraher field yesterday. Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, Ferrybank made a goos start with points from, Mark O' Brien, Eoin Faulkner, John Ahern, Robbie Carew to lead by 0-4 to 0-1. Fourmilewater kept in the hunt with points during the opening quarter. Ferrybank kept the scoreboard ticking over with Mark O' Brien and John Ahern adding further points. Just before Half time, John Ahern scored a good individual goal, blasting the sliothar into the net to put Ferrybank ahead 1-7 to 0-5 ahead. Moments later, John was unlucky to see another goalbound shot go narrowly wide. Fourmilewater scored two late points in the opening half to lead the score 1-7 to 0-8. With the breeze at their backs, Fourmilewater put over two points to level it up, but Mark O' Brien kept Ferrybank in the hunt with some good points. Fourmilewater began to look dangerous around the Ferrybank goal, and midway through the second half, Ferrybank lost possession in their own half, and were punished with a goal conceeded. Fourmilewater began to get the upper hand, and a second goal arrived minutes later, resulting them going into a five point lead. Davy Atkins and Shane Meagher replied with points, but the goal Ferrybank needed didnt come, as Fourmilewater replied with a another point to seal the win. No fault could be attributed to the players, as they gave it everything on the day. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the day.
