The Junior Hurlers qualified for the quater finals of the Junior Hurling Championship with a draw against Tramore this morning on a scoreline of 3-4 to 2-7. Ferrybank made a dreadful start to the game conceeding 2 goals in the opening three minutes, and things didnt look good at that stage. However Robbie Carew pointed to settle the nerves, and moments later Tommy Carew perserverence paid of with a well taken goal. Ferrybank missed a few good chances to score points but another Tommy Carew point reduced the gap to a point. Tramore scored their first point to extend the lead to 2 points, but John Ahern scored a good point to leave it 2-1 to 1-3 in Tramore's favour. Like the first half, Ferrybank made a poor start to the second half, when a Tramore '21 ended up in the Ferrybank net, but to be fair to the team they kept at it and points from Robbie Carew(2) and Martin Freeman reduced the gap. Ferrybank had a goal chance when James Murphy saw his goalbound shot saved, and Jeff Lawless following up saw his rebound shot also saved by the goalie. Tramore put over two points to extend the lead to 4pts, but entering the final few minutes, John Ahern weaved his way through the Tramore defence and planted the sliothar into the Tramore net to bring it back to the miminum. Minutes later John picked up a loose ball, and shot over the leveller. Both sides had chances to win the game but the final whistle sounded it finished level. A good effort from the players, considering the fact they were 6pts down after three minutes and fought hard throughout the game. With the point gained, Ferrybank qualified for the quater finals which are scheduled to take place week ending 23/24/25 August.
