Under 12 Hurling - Report from Sacred Heart game

Our under 12 hurlers played an exciting draw with Sacred Heart in Polberry last Friday night.

They played with the wind in the first half and despite good approach play we only scored once in the first half, a point by Luke Butler. This was the only score during this half despite some great passages of play from both sides. Early in the second half Sacred Heart scored a couple of points from frees and it looked ominous for the lads. Jack Haley seemed to have scored a great goal but the referee hopped the ball instead. However they showed great determination and bravery in the way they defended and with time running out super sub Maciej raced onto a long clearance and got to the ball before the goalkeeper and flicked the ball to the net, despite the best efforts of a defender. This looked to be the winner but alas Sacred Heart centerback raced up the field to score the equaliser in stoppage time. This was a wonderful result for these young hurlers and gets them back on the right road again having suffered 2 defeats in the last couple of weeks. They have knuckled down in training and the improved display is down to their hard work.

All the players and mentors wish Mikolaj Bednarski a happy holiday as he travels home to visit his Grandparents and relations in Poland. He will certainly be missed by the team in the remaining fixtures.
