Our Intermediate Hurlers turned in a poor display this afternoon in the Gerry Kennedy Sponsored Hurling League Quater finals, defeated on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-8 against Butlerstown. No doubt the better won on the day, as Ferrybank never found any rythm to their game over the 60 minutes. Despite leading 0-4 to 0-1 with points from Cormac O' Driscoll (3) and Damien Heffernan in the first half, Ferrybank were outscored by 0-7 to 0-0 over the next 25 minutes, in which Butlerstown lead by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break. With the wind at the their backs for the second half, Butlerstown extended the lead with two further points, before Mark O' Brien got a point from a free. Points were exchangd with John Ahern scoring a good points, but Butlerstown were in full command throughout the game and added another two points to lead 0-11 to 0-6 entering the final few minutes. Ferrybank got a lifeline when Chris Hoban blasted to the net from close range, and moments later Mark O' Brien pointed to reduced the gap to the minimum. Entering injury time, Butlerstown held their nerve and added two points to run out 0-14 to 1-8 winners and book a semi final place in the hurling league. A disappointing display from Ferrybank, no excuses as they had a full squad to pick from, and a major improvement will be required for their next game which will take place in Dunhill on Friday June 28th at 7:30pm against Ballyduff Lower in the Intermediate Hurling Championship.
