Our Junior Hurlers recorded an excellent win over Butlerstown this morning in the Gerry Kennedy Sponsored competition defeating the home side on a scoreline of 2-16 to 2-9. No doubt about the result as Ferrybank played well in all areas and fully deserved their win, considering the fact they were 6 points down midway through the first half. Despite conceeding the opening score, Ferrybank put the next three points on the board with Oisin MaCathmhaoil, and Martin Freeman (2) pointing. Butlerstown got the next score, and moments later, hit a purple patch with two quick goals and a point to leave them 2-3 to 0-3 ahead. But Credit to the team, as they knuckled down and points from John Ahern and James Murphy reduced the gap to 4 points. Ferrybank got their first goal when Greg murphy long range shot deceived the Butlerstown goalie and ended up in the net. Robbie Carew then hit 3 points in the closing minutes to give Ferrybank the lead at half time of 1-8 to 2-3. Despite playing against the breeze, John Ahern extended the lead with a point, then points were exchanged with Robbie Carew scoring a point. Ferrybank extended the lead to 6 points when a long ball into the Butlerstown area was 'doubled' on by Brian Bartley and the ball flew into the net for an excellent goal. The Murphy brothers added points to put Ferrybank well ahead, and the team played with confidence, with the defence repelling the Butlerstown forwards well. MJ Farrelly with two points and Robbie Carew with the final point of the game, ensured Ferrybank ran out deserving winners. Everyone played their part in the win, despite losing Stephen Quinn and Oisin MacCathmhaoil with injuries (lets hope they make speedy recoveries) the team worked hard all over the field.
