GAA NOTES

UNDER 14 HURLING:
Our under 14 hurlers bowed out of the county championship last Saturday afternoon losing to An Gaeltacht on a scoreline of 2-9 to 4-2 in Abbeyside. We started this game brightly, and after 20 minutes we were five points up, following great work in the middle of the field by David Atkins, Shane Meagher, Darryl Griffin, who set up our forward with chance after chance to get us a good lead. However An Gaeltacht were having none of it, and clawed their way back into the game to draw level at half time with some fine points. Ferrybank still looked stronger, and faced into the second half with the breeze in their backs, and before long had a five point lead with Alex Hughes netting and Shane Meagher, David Atkins raising the white flag. Ferrybank then got sloppy both in front of goal, and defending, and An Gaeltacht took full advantage scoring 1-4 without reply, thus setting up a tense finish. Ferrybank suddenly woke up and attacked in waves to get back into the game, and managed to back to a point, but again missed chances proved costly, in which we could have scored two goals in the final minutes, but some wayward finishing proved costly and An Gaeltacht held firm until the final whistle went. Disappointment for Ferrybank, however An Gaeltacht should be complimented for their never say die attitude, which won them the game, and we wish them well in the semi-final. Jack Wicks, Alex Grant, Kyle Malone, Cameron Wells were outstanding for Ferrybank on the day, and certainely didnt deserve to be on the losing team. TEAM: Jack Wicks, Shane Meagher, Tiernan Morrissey, Alex Hughes, David English, Jono Brown, Darryl Griffin, David Atkins, Paul Carew, Cameron Wells, Alex Grant, Kyle Malone, John Hickey, Andrew Whelan, Mark Whittle.

Ferrybank Gaa Club would like to congratulate our under 14 player John Hickey who was picked to play for the Waterford in the primary games at this years Munster Final between Waterford and Tipperary. However John wont be able to take up the offer, as he will be on holidays at the time, which is a shame,Well done John for getting selected.
