CAMOGIE LEAGUE FINAL:
It wasn't to be for the Ferrybank Junior Camogie team in last Saturday's League Final at a sun-drenched Kill GAA grounds as they were well defeated by a very good An Rinn side.
From the very outset, An Rinn made the running and early scores had Ferrybank under pressure throughout the game. It was a tough opening 10 minutes as An Rinn scored 1-04 without reply, before the girls got on the scoreboard with a point from Valerie O’Brien. A second An Rinn goal extended the lead, but Ferrybank replied with a goal of their own when a pass from Valerie found Aine who slotted the ball to the net. Another point from Grainne Heffernan reduced the gap, but a slicker, quicker An Rinn side finished the opening half stronger with a couple of goals and points. Despite a fine score from Eve, it was An Rinn who were in control at the break.
Early points from Roisin and Valerie saw the girls a lot more competitive in the second half, as they kept battling away, which was rewarded with a goal from Amber. It was a busy afternoon for Claire in the goal, as she made several fine stops in the goal to keep the scoreline down.
Credit to the team as they battled away, this young squad are still learning, and will improve as the season goes on. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the day.

MINOR HURLING:
Ferrybank/St. Saviours combined side were defeated by Passage last Thursday in Ballybeg on a scoreline of 0-19 to 2-11. Despite short a few players on the night, this was a close encounter throughout. There was little to separate the side at the break with Passage holding a 0-11 to 1-06 lead, but an early goal from Sam in the second half, had the team just ahead.
Plenty of wides from Ferrybank/St. Saviours didn't help their cause, but as the game went on, Passage held their nerve and got the scores to claim the points.
Next up for the team is a trip to Kilgobnet this coming Thursday, May 22nd at 7pm to play St. Patricks.
