TEAM 100:
With the playing season in full flow, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. Phase 2 (shell and core) is nearing completion, and we are preparing for Phase 3 (fit out) with your help. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.
This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.
Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.
Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.
Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.
MINOR HURLING:
Our Minor hurlers made a winning start to this year’s championship with an excellent win against a spirited Cois Bhride side last Wednesday in Tallow, on a scoreline of 3-21 to 4-15. The lads had to dig deep for the win, especially in the closing minutes, as two late goals from the home side set up a nervy finish.
Early points were exchanged in the match with Jay Bagge, Conor Haley, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, and Jacob Richards on target for Ferrybank. However, the lads took a grip on the game as they went on a scoring blitz that yielded 1-06 without reply, with a fine goal from Jay Bagge, following an excellent passing move that involved Sean Adeyemi and Lochlann Flanagan.
The impressive Jay Bagge popped over another two points, with Conor Haley chipping in with three. Cois Bhride got back into the game with a goal of their own from a long range free that sailed all the way into the net. Nonetheless, credit to the Ferrybank lads, as they hit their opponents with two quick goals in as many minutes through Jay Bagge and Caolan MacCathmhaoil, with the latter receiving a fine pass from Adam Aspel, and drilled the ball to the corner of the net. Cois Bhride rallied with three points just before the break to leave the score 3-13 to 1-08.
With points from Adam Aspel and Conor Haley extending the lead, Cois Bhride got a lifeline with a goal. This galvanised the home team as they hit three unanswered points to trim the lead. Badly needed points from Adam Aspel and Conor Haley gave the team a bit of breathing space, and with Kyle Daly in goal making a couple of crucial saves, Sean Adeyemi, Harry Flanagan and Lochlann Flanagan were working very hard in defence as the homeside kept coming looking for goals.
Three more points from Conor Haley seemed to have finished the game as they led by nine points. However, as the game neared full time, two quick goals from Cois Bhride set up a nervy finish, but the final whistle sounded straight after the puck out. A good start for the team and next up is a trip to play Abbeyside this coming Wednesday, July 12th at 7:30pm, where all support will be welcomed. Team: Kyle Daly, Paddy Mackey, Sean Adeyami, Sean Byrne, Conor Daley, Harry Flanagan, Lochlann Flanagan, Mark Flanagan, Fionn McGarrity, Adam Aspel (0-02), Conor Haley (0-11), Evan Mullally, Jay Bagge (2-05), Caolan MacCathmhaoil (1-02), Jacob Richards (0-01), Conor Morrissey, Dean Clarke, Max O’ Sullivan.
UNDER 15 HURLING:
The combined Ferrybank/St. Saviours team recorded their second win on the trot with victory over Passage last Monday on a scoreline of 3-17 to 3-10.
The team got off to a good start with a goal from Shane Moran, and this score settled the team down, as further scores from Evan, and Sam (4), put the team into a clear lead. However, Passage replied with a goal to reduce the gap, but further scores from Jacob (2), Evan and Mark F ensured the team lead by 1-09 to 1-04 at the break.
Passage started the second half better, with a goal, followed by a couple of points, but the game swung back in Ferrybanks/St. Saviours’ favour, with two quick goals in as many minutes from Jacob, and with Sam Roberts proving accurate with some fine scores, daylight between the teams appeared. Credit to Passage as they kept plugging away, and kept the defence busy at times, where Tommy in goal, Senan, Mark, and Lee worked hard throughout the game. Jamie Swift finished the scoring with a fine point. Next up for the team is this coming Monday, July 10th at 7pm where Sacred Heart will provide the opposition in Ferrybank. Scores Jacob (2-06), Sam (0-07), Evan (0-02), Shane (1-00), Jamie (0-01), Mark (0-01).
