ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

TEAM 100:

With the playing season in full flow, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.

This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.

Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.

Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.

Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:

The Intermediate hurlers defeated Tramore in the final of the Division 3 All-County Hurling league last Friday at St Saviours’ GAA grounds on a scoreline of 2-21 to 0-18. Despite being short a few key players, the team played well throughout the game, particularly in the second half, where the two goals proved vital.

Shane Oates opened the scoring in the first minute, but Tramore quickly levelled it up with a point. From then on, space at times was at a premium, with points being exchanged through Mark O' Brien (3) and Shane Oates to leave Ferrybank 0-05 to 0-04 in front. Ferrybank now took a grip of the game, aided with the breeze, and hit nine unanswered points through Robbie Carew (0-02), MJ Sutton (0-01), Kevin Hurley (0-01), and Mark O’ Brien (0-05) to leave Ferrybank 0-14 to 0-04 ahead at the break.

Tramore, with the breeze, hit three quick points to reduce the deficit upon the resumption. A fine reaction save from Cormac O’ Driscoll in the goal prevented a certain Tramore goal, and that save proved a turning point, as moments later, Ferrybank were awarded a penalty, when Mark O’ Brien was bundled to the group. Mark dusted himself down, and planted the sliothar to the net with a well-taken goal. Here on, Ferrybank began to take control of the game, and some fine passing and movement saw points for Robbie Carew (0-03) and MJ Sutton to extend the lead. A lot of frees conceded saw Tramore keep the scoreboard ticking over, but the second goal arrived following some fine passing involving Ryan Tierney and MJ Sutton whose pass to Robbie Carew was tidily dispatched to the net. A fine point from Ryan Tierney closed out the win.

A good overall performance from the team, especially in the second half as they picked off their scores against the breeze, with the defence holding firm, determined not to concede a goal. Captain Ryan Tierney accepted the cup on behalf of the team, and thanks to Pat O’ Meara and Nicky Heffernan for stepping in on the night to assist with the team, and to the supporters who came along.

TEAM: Cormac O' Driscoll, David Atkins, Damien Ahern, Stephen O' Kane, Izaak Richards, Cormac Heffernan, Sam Lawless, Shane Oates (0-02), Ryan Tierney (0-01), Kevin Hurley (0-01), MJ Sutton (0-02), Darryl Griffin, Robbie Carew (1-05), Seamus Burtchaell, Mark O' Brien (1-10), Ruaidhri McGarrity, John Collins, Lee Clarke, Maciez Tomczuk, Eoin O' Neill, Neil O’ Sullivan, Luke Flynn.

UNDER 11 HURLING:

The U11 hurlers welcomed Ballyduff Upper to the field last Friday. Following a good first half display, the lads went into the half-time break a point to the good. Ballyduff Upper came more into it in the second half, and got rewarded with a couple of goals of their own. Fair play to the team, as they battled away to the end, despite missing a few players, with a number of the Under 9s helping out on the night.

UNDER 8 CAMOGIE:

It was a busy week for the U8s, with a big training session last Wednesday night, with close on 50 kids reporting for training duty. The team welcomed Riann into the squad for the year ahead, and no doubt, she will make a good addition.

This was followed by a trip to Gracedieu last Saturday afternoon to play De La Salle, where the team wore their new jerseys, and once again put in another excellent performance from start to finish. All the team worked hard throughout, supported and helped one another during the contest, and putting plenty of pressure on their opponents, which no doubt pleased the mentors. Thanks to De La Salle for being excellent hosts.

INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:

Everyone at Ferrybank GAA and Camogie club would like to wish a swift and speedy recovery to Tara Power who picked up a bad injury during a challenge game last week. Let’s hope it won’t be too long before we see Tara back in the green jersey.
