ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

TEAM 100:

With the playing season back up and running, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.

This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.

Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.

Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.

Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.

DEVELOPMENT / HEALTH & SAFETY:

As we approach the busy time of the year, with plenty of games being held over the coming weeks and months, it is important to remember that the new clubhouse is currently still under construction. Under NO circumstances should anyone be entering the confines of the development until all construction has been completed.

This is extremely important. Anyone in breach of this will be asked to leave immediately.

Thank you for all your help and support with this development, and with a little bit more of a push we will get this completed in no time.

DÉISE DRAW:

The Déise Draw is back for 2023, and it will start on Monday, May 22nd. The draw will be the same format as last year with six draws taking place at €90 per annum (€15 per draw.) Each ticket sold by the club, will see 70% being retained by the club, and this goes towards the day-to-day running of the club. First prize is a nice €10k, second prize is €3k, third prize is €2k, fourth is €1k, fifth-eight is €500, 9th-16th €250, we would ask everyone to get involved and support the Déise Draw.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:

The Intermediate hurlers recorded a hard fought win over Cappoquin in their latest All-County Hurling League game on Sunday, winning on a scoreline of 1-18 to 0-20. A late Tom Burtchaell goal proved the difference in a keenly fought game.

Cappoquin had the better of the opening half, and despite it being level pegging early on, the visitors quickly moved up a gear, with some slick passages of play, and quickly hit six unanswered points to open up a lead. Ferrybank kept in touch with four Mark O' Brien points, and at the break they trailed by 0-13 to 0-07.

Ferrybank improved a lot in the second half, and scores from Darryl Griffin, Robbie Carew and Shane Oates brought them back into contention. With Mark O’ Brien proving accurate from placed balls, the lads reduced the gap to two points entering the closing minutes, with Tom Burtchaell being the first to react to a loose ball and put it into the net to go into the lead. Cappoquin levelled it up immediately, and with time almost up, one last chance saw Luke Flynn point from close range to secure a good win. This was a good test for the team, and they now move on to next Friday, May 19th with a home game against Tramore at 7:30pm.
