ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

MINOR HURLING:

Our Minor hurlers made it two wins from two with a great win over Clashmore/Kinsalebeg last Wednesday on a scoreline of 3-15 to 0-09. Goals at various stages from Finn, Jay and Shane Purcell ensured the team came away with the two points, despite missing a few key players.

Next up for the team is this coming Thursday, July 21st at 7:30pm against Ballugunner ‘B in Ferrybank, where all support will be appreciated.

UNDER 15 HURLING:

Ferrybank/St. Saviours combined side lost their first game in this year’s Championship when they were narrowly defeated in Clonea last Monday on a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-10. Despite missing a number of players on the night, the combined team put in a great effort on the field, but conceding a number of frees proved their downfall, as twelve of the Clonea scores came from placed ball.

Lee Kirwan struck the only goal of the game, but Ferrybank/St. Saviours just fell short when the final whistle sounded. Next game for the team is on Tuesday, July 19th against Naomh Brid in Ballybeg at 7pm.

UNDER 13 HURLING:

The combined Ferrybank/Sacred Heart side travelled to An Rinn last Monday to play An Ghaeltacht. Following a ding-dong battle, both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils. Scores from John-Joe, Alfie, JJ and Jack kept the scoreboard ticking over for the combined team, while at the other end; the defence was kept busy throughout the game, where Tommy in goal pulled off some top class saves. Final Score Ferrybank/Sacred Heart 8-08 An Ghaeltacht 6-14. The next game is on Monday, July 25th against Brickey Rangers at 7pm.

JUNIOR HURLING:

Our Junior hurlers begin their Championship campaign this coming Friday, July 22nd with a home game against Portlaw at 7:30pm. Let’s hope the team can begin with a win, and once again, all support will be appreciated on the night.

UNDER 7 HURLING:

Our U7s travelled to Mount Sion last Monday to play in a blitz, along with De La Salle. Three matches were played, where once again; another top class performance was put in by the team, which included three new debutants from the local boys’ school. On the night itself, the Golden Sliothar was shared between Ben and Layla with 5 goals each.

On Saturday morning, Glenmore were the visitors to our club grounds, where more competitive matches took place, both sides giving everything on the field, with plenty of goals being scored by the team through David, Layla, Freddie, Connor and Sam. Well done to everyone involved, with plenty of hard work being put in by all the coaches/mentors now beginning to pay dividends.

Well done to Iona Heffernan, Valerie O’ Brien, Doxer Burns (coach), and the Waterford Senior Camogie team on qualifying for the All-Ireland Senior Camogie semi-finals with an excellent victory over Limerick in Thurles.
