ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 15 HURLING:

Ferrybank/St Saviours combined team made a winning start to this year’s championship with a thrilling one-point win away to Passage last Monday on a scoreline of 4-07 to 1-15. It didn’t look good for the team, trailing by eight points early in the second-half, but two goals in as many minutes brought them right back into the game.

Passage made the brighter start with the opening two points, before Conor Haley got the team’s opening score, and moments later a high ball into the Passage area saw Jacob Richards react quickest, and drove the ball to the back of the net. This seemed to settle the combined side down, and they began to create some chances, which saw points from Conor, Reece Grant and Josh Jacob ensure the side went in level at the break.

However, things started badly for Ferrybank/St. Saviours, conceding an early second half goal, followed by five unanswered points, saw Passage take control of the game. A much needed point from Josh, followed by a super sideline point from Harry Flanagan seemed to settle the team. Moments later saw Ferrybank/St. Saviours hit the homeside for two quick goals with the impressive Josh Jacob hitting a bullet of a shot into the top corner, and Jacob scoring his second with a low drive into the corner to reduce the gap to a point. This seemed to spur on the team, and a point from Conor levelled it up, and the same player scored goal number four with a low shot which deceived the goalie. From there on, it was backs to the wall stuff, as Passage came back with two points to reduce the gap, and try as they might, they couldn’t force the levelling score as the defence aided by Sean, Lee, Harry and Adam held firm to record a vital win.

TEAM: Senan Wyse, Adam Houlihan, Sean Adewami, Alex Sullivan, Jamie Smith, Lee Kirwan, Harry Flanagan, John Griffin, Josh Jacob, Tommy Mullally, Roy Cummins, Reece Grant, Sam Roberts, Conor Haley, Jacob Richards.

UNDER 13 HURLING:

Ferrybnk/Sacred Heart side got back to winning ways last Wednesday with a 7-08 to 3-03 win over Passage. Narrowly defeated in their last game, the lads made no mistake this time round with goals from John Joe and Mark, and points from Finn, Mark and John Joe ensured the team were always in control of the game, but credit to Passage as they kept battling all the way to the end.

The team now play St. Olivers next Wednesday night June 29th at 7pm in Ferrybank, where all support will be welcome. TEAM: Tommy, Callum, Jamie S, Luke, Mark, Eoin, John Joe, Sam, Fionn, Finn, Alfie, Charlie, Harry, Adam, Jamie.

UNDER 7 & 8 CAMOGIE:

Our Under 7 Camogie side made the trip to play in a blitz hosted by Mount Sion last Wednesday. A fantastic turnout of 26 girls played a number of games, and showed some quality skills on the pitch. This group is getting better and better week-in, week-out, and the training is paying dividends at this early stage. Thanks to Mount Sion for being excellent hosts.

Last Saturday the U8s made the trip to Cappoquin to take part in a mini blitz against St. Mollerans, Clonea and Cappoquin. The girls played in three quality matches, and scored some great goals in the games, in particular Maeliosa’s 40-yard screamer all the way into the net. A great all round display from this very young squad with the majority playing U7 as well. Thanks to Cappoquin for being excellent hosts on the day.

TEAM: Saoirse Morgan, Natasha, Maeliosa, Layla, Saoirse W, Nadia, Poppy, Zoey, Layla, Anna, Shiloh, Saoirse J.
