ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

 INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:

Our Intermediate Camogie side went down in their latest Hooper Dolan Championship clash against An Rinn last Saturday morning in Ferrybank on a scoreline of 4-07 to 1-07. Despite this defeat against a very good side, the team can take a lot of positives from this game, and kept going all the way to the end. Crucially, two goals just before the half-time whistle proved vital in the game.

Ferrybank got off to a great start inside the opening minutes, when a ball played into the An Rinn area by Niamh Ahearne, was gathered by Áine Prendergast, and a quick turn from Áine saw her shoot low into the net for a goal. However, the lead was short lived as An Rinn hit back almost immediately with a goal. Moments later, a second goal followed, after a swift move from the visitors. Two further points followed, and it looked ominous for the girls as their defence was coming under pressure, with Amy Boden in goal pulling off a couple of excellent saves, and the full back line of Aisling Heffernan, Deirdre Heffernan and Rachel Butler working hard. However, they didn’t drop their heads, and from there Ferrybank hit three unanswered points from Niamh Ahearne, Áine Prendergast and Valerie O’ Brien to reduce the gap to two points. However, just before the break, An Rinn hit the homeside for two quick goals to leave it 4-02 to 1-03 at the break.

Two quick points from Valerie O’ Brien closed the gap, but An Rinn were still a threat going forward, and kept their lead intact, by matching Ferrybank score by score in the second-half. Try as they could for goals, Ferrybank found it hard to unlock the An Rinn defence, and despite points from Niamh Ahearne and Valerie O’ Brien, An Rinn ran out worthy winners in the end.

Ferrybank have two remaining games left in the group against Modeligo and Brickry Rangers, in what are must win games, and if they can show the effort and desire they did against An Rinn, they have an excellent chance of winning both those games.
