ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 15 HURLING:
Pride of place this week goes to our U15 hurlers who were crowned Division 3 County Champions last Saturday morning, defeating Ardmore on a score-line of 2-09 to 1-04 at Walsh Park. An incredible team effort from this group of players from the first whistle to the last, the teamwork of these young men are a joy to behold.
Ardmore, wind assisted in the opening half, dominated the opening quarter, and began to put pressure on the Ferrybank defence, but crucially, only conceded one point, while Ferrybank put over three points to give them confidence. Things became a lot better with Ruaidhri McGarrity scoring two quick fire goals, and Izaak Richards scoring points from placed balls ensuring Ferrybank led 2-04 to 0-01 at the break.
Again, similar to the opening half, Ardmore made the initial running, but our defence, in particular Kyle Daly on the goal, pulled off two crucial saves that would have given the seas-siders hope of making a comeback. However, Ferrybank began to get their act together with Adam Aspel beginning to run the show in midfield, driving the team on, and setting up points. In the closing minutes, Ardmore got a late consolation goal, but it was too little too late.
This was another great result for the team who went through this competition unbeaten, and Ruaidhri McGarrity, captain of the team, accepted the trophy on behalf of the panel amid joyous scenes. Credit to the panel of players, as in 2017, Ferrybank had to pull out of the Under 13 City League due to a lack of players. After a lot of soul searching within our juvenile club, a decision was made not to amalgamate with another club, and so go it alone, which resulted in this team capturing the U14 County Championship last year. Every one of these players did Ferrybank GAA club proud.
Thanks to the parents for your support throughout the year, and let’s hope it’s the start of future success. Finally, a special thanks to Brian Richards, Conor McGarrity and John Heffernan who, for the last two years, have trained these bunch of players, and have put in a huge amount of time, effort and commitment, and left no stone unturned in preparing the team for all those matches, and it has now paid off.
PANEL: Kyle Daly, Sean Akewami, Paddy Mackey, Lochlann Flanagan, Odhran Power, Conor Daly, Adam Aspel, Izaak Richards, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Ruaidhri McGarrity, Shane Purcell, Daniel Griffin, Sean Heffernan, Matti Tomczuk, Jay bagge, Conor Haley, Fionn McGarrity, Michael MacLaurence, Sean Byrne, Harry FLanagan, Luigi D'ambra, Aaron Meaney.

UNDER 13 HURLING:
This coming Saturday September 28th will see the U13 hurlers play Ballygunner in the Division 1 semi-final at St Saviours GAA grounds, Ballybeg with a 1:30pm throw-in. This will be a tough assignment for the players, against a side that will start the game as favourites. However, buoyed with the success of the U15 hurlers last week, the team will give it their best shot, and certainly won’t go down without a fight. On the day, your support will be crucial, so please come along and cheer on the lads.

DÉISE DRAW:
The final Déise Draw of 2019 will take place this coming Wednesday September 25th in Shalloes of Colligan, and let’s hope we can sign off with a couple of winners on the night.
Ferrybank GAA club would like to thank everyone who purchased a Déise Draw ticket throughout the year, as 70% of ticket sales are retained by the club in going towards our day to day running.
