ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:

It was heart break for the U13 Footballers last Monday night in the Bord nÓg Division 2 semi-final as St. Saviours scored a last gasp goal to give them a narrow victory over a gallant Ferrybank side. This game had everything. Just when it seemed Ferrybank had nicked it, there was one last twist to this enthralling game.

Aided by the breeze in the opening half, both sides had chances and midway through the opening half, Jay Bagge opened the scoring with a point. St. Saviours looked dangerous going forward, with the Ferrybank defence, consisting of Paddy, Loughlan, Evan, Harry and Sean had to work hard, and Kyle Daly in the goal had to be alert on a couple of occasions. Saviours levelled it up just before the break, leaving it all square at the half way stage.

Caolan MacCathmhaoil scored a fine point to put Ferrybank ahead, but Saviours came back, kicking three unanswered points. It looked from there as if they would pull away, epically after Kyle in the goal pulled off two top class saves.  A fine flowing move involving Adam Aspel and Caolan saw the ball delivered to Jay Bagge who slotted the ball to the net to edge Ferrybank ahead. Chances went a begging for the lads after that, as Caolan and Conor saw their efforts go narrowly wide. Saviours began to probe further into the Ferrybank defence, but Paddy, Sean and Harry were holding firm. Two further points edged Saviours ahead, and as the game entered its closing stages. A free from Jay went into the square and Conor Haley was quick to react and palm the ball to the net to put the lads a point ahead.

With the game deep into injury time, one last chance from Saviours saw the ball go into the square and the St Saviours forward was left unmarked, poked the ball past Kyle and into the Ferrybank net to give St Saviours a narrow win. No doubt the lads will be disappointed, but on the field they left no stone unturned and did themselves and the parish proud.

UNDER 11 HURLING:

The U11 hurlers played Ballygunner B in their latest City League match last Friday night. Always going to be a tough game, against a very good side, the lads put in a great effort throughout the game and got their reward with a fine 4-07 to 2-06 win. A special mention to Michal, in his first week as goalkeeper, as he pulled off some excellent saves, just when it looked as Ballygunner were in for a goal, and this inspired the rest of the team to drive on to claim the two points.
