ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 19 FOOTBALL:

No joy for the U19 Footballers last Friday night, as they were defeated by De La Salle in the semi-finals of the Whites’ Bar Eastern Championship in Carriganore.

The lads fought hard throughout the game, but some crucial errors, including missing a penalty in the first-half, proved vital as De La Salle scored two goals that paved their way for victory. Credit to the players as they kept going to the whistle and scored the last couple of points on the night.

UNDER 17 FOOTBALL:

The U17 Footballers will play St. Saviour’s this coming Thursday night March 21st at 7:30pm in Carriganore in the JJ Kavanagh & Sons sponsored competition. This is effectively a knockout match, with the winners progressing to the quarter-finals, so your support will be crucial on the night. Best of luck lads.

JUVENILE GAELIC GAMES ACADEMY:

The club’s Nursery Programme continues each and every Saturday morning from 10am to 11am in the GAA grounds for boys and girls aged between 5 and 6 years old. The nursery programme teaches children the basic movements and skills required to play Gaelic games including agility, balance, coordination, running, jumping, throwing, kicking, striking and catching. All equipment, hurleys and helmets will be supplied.

DÉISE DRAW:

The 2019 Déise Draw will start on Wednesday, April 24th. It will be the same format as last year, with six monthly draws at €15 per month, with first prize been €12,500; 2nd prize of €2,500, 3rd prize of €1,000; all the way down to prize number twenty (€150). Also, there will be special bonus draws of a Harvey Travel voucher & Super-Valu vouchers to be won.

This is the club’s main source of income, with 70% of the sale of the ticket been retained by the club, which goes towards paying for day-to-day operations. So we would encourage everyone to support the Déise Draw.

ANGELA BURNS MEMORIAL 10K FUN/RUN WALK:

The fifth Angela Burns Memorial 10K Fun Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, April 14th at 11am, starting from the GAA grounds.

Once again, this event has been kindly sponsored by Harvey Travel, and we would like to thank Sean Power and his staff for their kind and generous sponsorship.

Registration is currently open on www.totaltiming.ie, and its €15 for the runners (chipped) and €10 for the walkers. This event is open to everyone from marathon runners, joggers, walkers, pram pushers etc., and we would ask everyone to keep this date in your diary, and come along and enjoy this great day out.

More details can be found on www.facebook.com/AngelaBurnsMemorial10k/

MOTHERS & OTHERS:

The Ferrybank Mothers and Others Ladies Football team training (for women over 25) is starting in the Ball Alley this Tuesday (March 19th) from 7 to 8pm. Newcomers welcome.

COUNTY DUTY:

Well done to Mark O' Brien and the Waterford Senior hurling team that defeated Clare in the quarter finals of the Allianz National hurling league last Saturday afternoon. They now and go on to play Galway in the semi-finals this coming Sunday in Nowlan Park.

Our U10 hurlers also took part in the half-time last weekend against Stradbally. The lads really enjoyed their chance to play in Walsh Park. Well done to all and thank you to the team mentors.

DEFIBRILLATOR:

Thank you to Danette & Michael Connolly of Home Instead Senior Care for their contribution and help in replenishing our defibrillator in the club grounds. Defibrillators are an essential First Aid accessory in the club and helps make the area a safer place, adding to the community’s welfare.
