ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:

No joy for our Junior Footballers in the John J Murphy Eastern final, as they were defeated by Mount Sion on a score-line of 1-11 to 0-05 in Carriganore earlier. Despite a promising opening half, Ferrybank failed to convert their chances, given the amount of possession they had, and for all their effort trailed Mount Sion by 0-4 to 0-3 at the break, with Sam Lawless, Kevin Hurley and Luke Flynn scoring the points.

Both sides traded early opening points in the second-half, but moments later Mount Sion struck for a goal, which really changed the game, and they became stronger, taking control of the game. Davy Atkins in goal, pulled off two fine saves from close range to keep Ferrybank in the hunt, but the lads weren’t able to respond, as Mount Sion began to pick of points to open up clear daylight between the sides, and closed out the game in the end, running out worthy winners, and we wish them well for the county final next weekend.

Hard luck to the lads who gave it their all, but just couldn’t repeat their semi-final heroics on the day. Special word of thanks to Pat and Nicky for looking after the team throughout the year:

GREYHOUND NIGHT:

The club’s annual night at the dogs, in association with Surehaul & Rolor Commercials, takes place on Saturday, November 17th at Kilcohan Park Greyhound Stadium. The first race gets underway at 7:50pm.

Tickets on the night cost €10 each, and can be purchased from any committee member. Also available from the committee are nominations cards, where you can nominate a dog for €10, and if the dog wins on the night, you win the nice sum of €30.

This is the club’s fundraiser of the year, and we would ask all players, members, supporters and families to purchase their tickets from the GAA club directly, as this benefits the club greatly. Once again, the main door prize on the night has been kindly sponsored by Harvey Travel, Gladstone St., consisting of a weekend away in the four star Castleross hotel in Killarney, and we are very grateful to Sean Power and his staff for their generous sponsorship. Second prize on the night has been sponsored by Murphy & Larkin Carpentry Services, consisting of an attic stairs and fitting, plus many more prizes on the night. All in all, a great night is assured, so please purchase your tickets, and support your local GAA club.

KEEP FIT CLASSES:

Continuing each and every Thursday night in the ball alley from 8-9 pm, under the guidance of Chris Dempsey, keep fit classes take place. This is aimed at all Ladies, in particular the Camogie, Mothers & Others football team, etc. Everyone is most welcome to attend. Classes cost €5 per person.

DÉISE DRAW:

We had no luck in the final Déise Draw of 2018 which took place last Wednesday night in Cappoquin. On behalf of Ferrybank GAA club, a special thanks to all who purchased tickets throughout the year, and the money the club received from the draw, will benefit Ferrybank greatly.
