UNDER 16 HURLING: Our Under 16 hurlers recorded a superb victory in the final of the Division 2 hurling this afternoon when they defeated a fancied Tramore side by 3-6 to 0-9 in Fraher field this afternoon. Goals win matches and thats what occured today. Tramore, going into todays game were clear favourites having defeating Ferrybank earlier in the camagin. From the moment the ball was thrown in, Ferrybank showed a great hunger, and Robbie Carew slotted over some good points to set the ball rolling. Tramore replied with points of their own, andthe defence was solid, despite the absence of David Atkins. John Ahern got his first goal of the match with an excellent finish, and John got his second of the game to give Ferrybank a 2-3 to 0-5 lead at the break. Tramore tried hard in the second half, looking for the goal to get them back into the game, and any hope of that was quickly vanquished when John got his hatrick with another exellent finish, and Robbie Carew put over another point to seal the win. This was a great display from the team with everyone played their part in the win, and Captain John Ahern collected the cup on behalf of the team amid joyous scenes. Thanks to Martin Freeman, Eoin O' Neill, Damien Ahern who put in huge effort with the team, and their rewards paid off. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team. Lets hope this is the start of many trophies for the team. We wish David Atkins who would have played today a speedy recovery from injury, and lets hope its not to long before we see him back in the Ferrybank jersey. UNDER 21 HURLING: Our Under 21 Hurlers were defeated later on in Cleaboy this evening going down to a strong Passage side on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-13. No doubts about the result, as the better team won on the day, taking chances when it mattered. Ferybank didnt get going in the first half, and Passage capitalise on slack defending scoring two goals, the second goal just before half time was a killer blow, in which Passage led by 2-7 to 0-6, with Mark Russell scoring all six points for Ferrybank. In the second half, Passage always maintained their 6/7 point lead, and snuffing out any chances Ferrybank got near the goal. Despite trying hard and points from Greg Murphy, Eoin Buggy, Sam Lawless, Passage always tagged on points when it mattered, and despite a late Mark Russell goal, time wasnt on Ferrybanks side as the final whistle sounded. It just wasnt Ferrybanks day, as they found it hard to get into a rythm. Thanks to Shiner Ahearne, John Buggy, Conor Hogan, Paul Martin, Martin Freeman for their efforts in preparing the team during the season, and to the supporters who came along to support the team. We wish Passage the bestof luck in the County final.
