JUNIOR HURLING: Our Junior Hurlers recorded their first win in this years championship with a hard fought 2-9 to 2-4 win over St Mollerans tonight. It was only in the final few minutes that Ferrybank pulled away after trailling for long periods. Greg Murphy opened the scoring with a couple of points before St Mollerans replied. Ferrybank had the better of the opening exchanges creating a few chances but didnt put the scores on the board to reflect their dominance. Further points from Greg extended the lead, but just before half time St Mollerans scored 1-2 to give them an unlikely 1-4 to 0-4 lead at the break. In the second half, Ferrybank had the better of the play and Dean Phelan reduced the gap with a good point. As Ferrybank had a lot of possession and holding St Mollerans scoreless, they drew level with two further points from Greg Murphy. Entering the final few minutes, Brian Bartley scored a crucial goal, when he latched onto a loose ball, and finished it to the back of the net. Minutes later Brian got his second goal, when good link up play from Aidan Sinnott, Jamie Diggins, Darren Hickey gave the ball into Brian Bartley and he finished well despite the presence of the St Mollerans defence. With time almost up, St Mollerans got a goal to reduce the deficit to a goal, but straight from the puckout, Greg Murphy pointed, and with the last action of the game Eoin Buggy slotted over the Insurance point. This was a deserved win for the team, with a lot of young players, they will have benefitted from the game.
