GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers drew there third game in this years Intermediate hurling championship in Fenor against Tramore  yesterday on a scoreline of -17pts to 1-14. It took a late score from Mark O' Brien to keep the unbeaten record in tact. Ferrybank opened the scoring in the opening minute through Phil Blake, only for Tramore to respond with two frees to put them into the lead. Points from Mark Russell and Sam Lawless put Ferrybank into the lead, only for Tramore to reply from a free. Cormac Heffernan and Eoin O' Neill with good points put Ferrybank two points clear, and it was another Tramore free that was keeping them in touch. Three points from Cormac O' Driscoll, Mark Russell and Sam Lawless extended the lead to three points, where Sam was unlucky not to score a goal, as his shot was just to high which went over the bar. Tramore got there first point from play, just before half time to reduce the gap to two points, which left the half time score Ferrybank leading by -9pts to -7pts. In truth Ferrybank ought to have been 6 or 7 points clear, having shot 10 wides in that half.
An early Tramore free in the second half reduced the gap to a point, but Cormac O' Driscoll pointed to extend the lead. Again another Tramore free kept them in the match, but Mark Russell with 2 scores inside a minute kep Ferrybank ahead. Tramore came back at Ferrybank with 2 more scores to keep the game in the melting pot, and with 10 minutes to go, Tramore got the only goal of the game, where Ferrybank failed to clear there lines, and the ball was poked into the Ferrybank net to level the game up at 1-11 to -14pts. Eoin O' Neill responded quickly with a fine score to put them into the lead, but with the game ebb and flowing, Tramore replied with 2 points, to go into the lead. Mark Russell with a free brought the game level, as the game entered the final few minutes. Eoin O' Neill with his third point, put Ferrybank back into the lead, Tramore quickly responded  with a point. As the game went into injury time another free conceeded, gave Tramore the chance to take the lead, which they duely did. But credit to Ferrybank at deep into injury time, Mark O' Brien fired over an excellent point from a tight angle, to bring the game level, and the referee blew full time. Conceeding to many frees, didnt help Ferrybank's cause, as they were punished on each occasion, but they fought back to earn a draw, and with 5 points from there opening 3 games, they are still in a good positon to qualify for the knockouts. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the day. Next game is scheduled for Friday June 15th in Walsh park against St Saviours at 7:30pm.
