GAA NOTES

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers were defeated by Mt Sion on Friday night in their opening game in the Junior Football championship on a scoreline of 5-7 to 2-4. Ferrybank playing against the breeze in the first half, had a nightmare opening half, trailling 4-4 to -1pt with Kevin Hurley registering their only score. Mt Sion benefitted from some wayward passing and defending, and took their chances that they were given, building up a big lead in the opening half. Mt Sion started the second half, where they left of in the first half by tagging on further points. Ferrybank got a goal through Kevin Hurley to reduce the gap, and any hopes of a comeback were soon diminshed when the home side got their fifth goal of the game. In the final quater Stephen Treacy got a 2nd goal for the team with a well taken goal. Ferrybank had their chances and missed some good scores to reduce the gap, hitting the crossbar and post twice in the game. Further points from Sean Rellis and Greg Murphy finished Ferrybanks scoring on the night. Overall this was a disappointing start to the championship for the team, but there are still 3 games remaining in the group to ensure qualification from the group, but a huge effort will be needed, when they play their second game against Eirns own on Thursday may 2nd in Ferrybank at 7pm.  TEAM: James Troy, Pat O'Neill, Pat Treacy, Emmet Fell, Seamus Burchill, John Treacy, Tommy Carew, Phil Blake, Kevin Hurley(1-2), Greg Murphy(-1), John Byrne, Darragh Reynolds, Keith Power, Sam Lawless, Martin Freeman, Conor Hayden, Sean Rellis(-1), DJ Magee, Stephen Treacy(1-0), Dean Phelan, Stephen Quinn, Darren Hickey, Brian Bartley, Greg Kinsella, Eddie Byrne, Oisin McCathmhaoil.

UNDER 16 FOOTBALL: Our Under 16 Footballers were well and truely beaten this morning by a very good Cois Bhride side on a scoreline of 5-12 to 1-2. Ferrybank were second best in all areas, as Cois Bhride dominated the game from start to finish. Some good saves from Issac Power in goal, prevented a bigger scoreline. Trailling 2-8 to no score at the half time break, Ferrybank improved marginally in the second half where Shane Meagher scored a good goal with John Ahern registering the two points, but Cois Bhride scored at will and will be hard to beat in this group if they maintain this form. lets hope the lads can bounce back in their next game which is scheduled for Saturday April 28th away to Brickey Rangers at 11:30am.
