GAA NOTES

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers relinquished their Eastern Football crown on Saturday last, where their were defeated by Mt Sion on a scoreline of 1-5 to 1-3. It was Mt Sion who made the better start to the game, in which they were on top in midfield and created the better chances, and they opened the scoring in the first minute with a point. They added a second point on 14 minutes, but slowly we started to get back into the game and Greg Murphy opened our account with a well taken point on 19 minutes, which was quickly followed by a point by Sam Lawless to level matters. Sam was unlucky to see his goalbound shot hit the post. We created good scoring chances in the remainder of the first half but some wayward passing and shooting left us down. In the final minute of the first half Mt Sion were awarded a penelty, but James Troy pulled of a great save, which left the half time score at two points each. At the start of the second half, Ferrybank got a goal when a high ball into the box was palmed down to Sam and he blasted the ball to the net. This was the kick start needed, but the lead only lasted four minutes when Mt Sion got a goal themselves to level the game up. The game went scoreless for the next ten minutes, in which that time Ferrybank missed a bundle of scoring chances from excellent scoring positions. Another point from Sam with 10 minutes to go put us back into the lead, then "Trotter" pulled of another great save which lead to a Mt Sion point to level it up, but in the last five minutes another two points from Mt Sion put them clear, and as tried as the lads could, they were unable to get scores to win the game. This was a game Ferrybank could have won, if they had converted some of the chances they had, but it wasnt to be. To Mt Sion we say well done, and best of luck in the county final.
