GAA NOTES
JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers qualified for the Eastern final with a comfortable win against St Pauls in Fenor on Saturday evening on a scoreline of 2-14 to -8pts. A good start to the game was the key to this victory in which five points were put over without reply. Points from Sam Lawless(2),John Treacy, stand in captain Greg Murphy, and Eoin O' Neill set us up, before St Pauls opened their account midway through the first half. However two quick goals in the space of a few minutes gave us breathing space, firstly Damien Walsh blasted the ball to the net, following good approach work from Darragh Reynolds, and minutes later Marty Freeman fisted the ball to the net to put us ten points clear. However Credit to St Pauls as they put over five unanswered points to reduce the gap to five, but Eoin O' Neill pointed just before half time to leave two goals between the sides at half time. At the start of the second half, like the first half early points from Greg Murphy(3), Eoin O' Neill(1) put daylight between the sides, as Ferrybank dominated possession and missed some handy scores, further points from John Treacy, and John Byrne, and sub Connor Hayden who chipped in with two fine scores underlined Ferrybank's dominance. This was a good win, with the defence holding solid throughout the game giving little away, the midfielders holding their own, winning plenty of ball to put the forwards on the attack, and the six forwards contributing some very good scores in the game. No doubt Mt Sion will provide stiff opposition for Ferrybank in the final which is scheduled for Saturday 2nd October venue yet to be decided. TEAM and Scores: James Troy, Pat O' Neill, Gary Coady, Paul Martin, Tommy Carew, John Treacy(-2), Damien Walsh, Phil Blake, John Byrne(-1), Greg Murphy(-4), Jason Hennessey, Eoin O' Neill(-3), Darragh Reynolds, Sam Lawless(-2), Marty Freeman(1-0), SUB Connor Hayden(-2), for Darragh Reynolds.
