GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers travelled to Walsh Park last Monday to play Ballygunner in there opening game in the Eastern championship and came away with a fully deserved victory by 13 points to -7. Following a slow opening to the game in which we found ourselves 4 points to -1 down after 15 minutes, the lads started to get going with points from Cormac Heffernan, Eoin o' Neill, Cormac O' Driscoll, put us into a -7points to -5 lead at the half way stage. In the second half Ferrybank began to get on top with the defence dominating, and the forwards getting plenty of ball, points were tagged on by Damien Walsh, Sam Lawless, Phil Blake, and Cormac O; Driscoll, putting the village boys in command. Despite missing a penelty, and some other good chances of scores, Ferrybank were determined not to leave this game slip and ran out worthy winners at the full time whistle. It would be unfair to nominated a man of the match as each player played there part in this win. This was a good start to the championship, but more improvement is required if we are going to make an impact in this years competition. Scores on the day were Cormac O' Driscoll -4pts, Damien Walsh -3pts, Cormac Heffernan -2pts, Eoin O' Neill -2pts, Sam Lawless -1pt, Phil Blake-1pt. JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers travelled to Butlerstown on Saturday to play the hosts in round two of the Junior Football championship and came away with a facile 4-11 to 3-3 victory. Two quick points from Darragh Reynolds and Sam Lawless set us on our way, which was quickly followed by a goal from Cormac O' Driscoll. However Butlerstown got a quick goal from the restart, but points from Greg Murphy ans Sam Lawless soon put us back in control. Just before half time we hit a purple patch with two quick goals from the lethal Marty Freeman which gave us a 3-6 to 1-1 lead at half time. In the second half we were caught napping as Butlerstown grabbed to quick goals to reduce the deficit to -5pts but points from Heno and Greg, before Greg got goal number four when he finished a fine move to put the game to bed.
