Intermediate hurlers
Our Intermediate Hurlers played Ballygunner in there final championship game in Cleaboy last Thursday night and were defeated on a scoreline of 1-16 to -15pts.Playing against the breeze we made a good start by quickly opening up a 3pt lead, but ballygunner came back and hit over 7pts on the spin, but as the first half wore on we came a lot more into it and went in at halftime trailing only by a point. In the 2nd half with the breeze we drew level and it looked then that we may go on from here and win the game but hitting 6 wides on the trot proved our down fall as a more experienced ballygunner took there chances when it mattered including the only goal of the game midway through the half. As hard as the lads fought we were unable to breach the ballygunner defence for that vital goal we needed and conceding some silly frees proved costly in the end. Despite having not qualified for the knockouts there is no doubt that this panel of players have improved considerably from the last two years and this is down to there effort of training they have put in since January. To Doxer and Nicky a big thank you to ye both, as ye have been the people who have instilled this belief and effort into this team. There is no doubt the players have enjoyed working with both of ye and the attendences in training over the past 7 months have shown that.Take a bow lads. To Maxi and Tony for being the 1st aiders for the team and to Dom and Spuddie ,and the ladies who provided tea and sandwiches to the players after training on those dark cold and wet nights a big thank you as well. This is a young team overall and espicallly to the minors who played this year this experience will stand to them for next year.
