Minor Hurling Championship

Our minor hurlers played their third game of the championship verses Fourmilewater on Tuesday night last in tough conditions. The game started with both sides giving nothing away in the first ten minutes with only score coming from a free from Shane O'Sullivan.Fourmilewater soon hit back to level the game with the sides going point for point with the Ferrybank scores coming from Damien Ahearn and Mark Russell.Fourmilewater took the lead only for Ferrybank to cancel it out with a great goal from Eric Corcoran and a free from Damien Ahearn. With the half drawing to a close Fourmilewater hit a point only for Sam Lawless to split the uprights to leave the score at half-time Ferrybank 1-05 Fourmilewater 0-05.The start of the second half saw Fourmilewater narrow the lead to two points with Ferrybank hitting back with points from Mark Russell and Sam Lawless.Fourmilewater upped the tempo and hit four points without reply. This was the wake-up call the lads needed and soon had the ball in the net from the stick of Sam Lawless, with Fourmilewater hitting two points with the game heading into the last ten minutes it could have gone either way but with points from Damien Ahearn with two and Mark Russell the game should have been over but Fourmilewater hit back with some well taken points. The final few minutes Ferrybank stood strong in defence and held a strong Fourmilewater challenge to hold out for a one point victory, final score Ferrybank 2-10 Fourmilewater 0-15.Team Darren Hickey,John Keating Tommy Carew Neill Weymes,Damien Ahearn(0-4) Shane O'Sullivan(0-1) Seamus Burtchill, John Roche DJ Magee, Greg Murphy Sam Lawless(1-02) Mark Russell (0-3) Eoin Buggy Eric Corcoran (1-0) Jamie Diggins Subs: Aidan Sinnott Emett Fell.A big thank you to everyone who made the long journey up it gave the lads a great boost to see so many there and was much appreciated by the management, Next game is verses St Olivers on Monday the 27th in Aglish at 7:30pm.
