Minor Hurling Championship

Ferrybank played round two of the minor hurling championship versus St Patricks in Ferrybank on Tuesday night.A win was vital here and our lads knew they would be in for a tough battle and they weren't disappointed. We started the game somewhat off the pace but slowly got into the match with scores from Sam Lawless, Greg Murphy, Damien Ahearn, Eric Corcoran and Mark Russell.A mistake in the backline cost us a goal when the ball should have been cleared and let them in to give our goalkeeper no chance. With the half drawing to a close Ferrybank took lead by the minimum, half time score Ferrybank 0-10 St Patricks 1-06.The second half started with St Patricks getting on top and taking the lead.Ferrybank clawed their way back into with Damien Ahearn hitting some great long range frees Ferrybank kept in touch.St Patricks drew level once again with a well taken goal, but points from Mark Russell Cormac Heffernan Sam Lawless and a super score from the impressive John Roche. Greg Murphy rattled the net and Ferrybank looked set for victory untill St Patrick hit net once again to draw level with only a few minutes remaining.Ferrybank kept their head and won some vital ball and Mark Russell tagged on the vital scores to win the game on a scoreline of Ferrybank 1-18 St Patricks 3-09.Team Seamus Burtchill,Neill Weymes Tommy Carew John Keating,Kevin Hurley Shane O'Sullivan Damien Ahearn(0-4),John Roche(0-1) DJ Magee,Cormac Heffernan(0-1)Sam Lawless(0-3)Greg Murphy(1-1),Sean Rellis Eric Corcoran(0-1) Mark Russell (0-7) SUBS; Jamie Diggins,Aidan Sinnott,Dean Phelan,Emmet Fell.Next game is away to Fourmilewater on Wednesday training will take place with the intermediates.
