Minor Hurling Championship
The minor hurling championship kicked off with Ferrybank starting the defence of the title they won last year with a tough game against Brickey Rangers in Ferrybank Gaa grounds on Wednesday night. The game started and a frantic pace with Ferrybank taking the lead from a Shane O'Sullivan point. It was nip and tuck through the first twenty minutes with each team going score for score with the Ferrybank points coming from Cormac O'Driscoll Mark Russell and Eric Corcoran.Ferrybank then took control of the game and played some great hurling and picked off some great scores from Eoin Buggy and Mark Russell. At the end of the first half the score stood Ferrybank 0-12 Brickey Rangers 0-05.The second half started with Ferrybank getting on top and tagging the important scores at the right time. But credit to Brickeys they never gave up and got on top with some well taking scores.Just as their comeback was on Ferrybank hit back with a goal from Jamie Diggins and points from Shane O'Sullivan, Cormac O'Driscoll and Eric Corcoran.A soft goal by Brickeys gave them some hope but Ferrybank hit back with poits from Darren Hickey, Emett Fell and the impressive Cormac O'Driscoll who showed why his omission from the Waterford minor team was not justified.Cormac Heffernan then got on the score sheet with a fine point and a goal near the end from O'Driscoll put some gloss on the scoreboard final score Ferrybank 2-20 Brickey Rangers 1-08.Scores;Cormac O'Driscoll 1-8,Mark Russell 0-4,Shane O'Sullivan and Eric Corcoran 0-2 each Jamie Diggins1-0,Cormac Heffernan, Darren Hickey, Eoin Buggy andEmmet Fell 0-1 each Thanks also to Doxer Burns and Nicky Heffernan who opened the door to the lads for training and also Maxie Macabe who helped out with first aid on the night.Team;Seamus Burtchill, John Keating Tommy Carew Neill Wymess;John Roche Shane O'Sullivan Kevin Hurley; Dj Magee Cormac O'Driscoll;Greg Murphy Eric Corcoran Cormac Heffernan;Eoin Buggy Sean Rellis Mark Russell.
