END OF YEAR REPORT 2008 FOR U-5/6/7/8

HURLING ROUND UP OF THE YEAR 2008 FOR Under 5/6/7/8 YRS

The Ferrybank Under 5/6/7/8 Panel had a number of friendly outfield games during the season at the St.Saviours GAA grounds,Sacred Heart GAA,Commercials Clonmel GAA,Ballygunner GAA grounds etc which were a great success.

Team: Jake Brophy, Kian Byrne , Adam O’Grady, John Collins, James Tyler, Luke Butler, Jack Haley, Reece Bolger ,Benjamim Russell , Gavin Buckley, , Gavin Fox, Theo Kavanagh,Jack O’Brien-Moran, Reece McDonald, Dillion McDonald, Sam Kimpton, Kian Martin,Trevor Madigan, Dillion Smith, Charlie Atkins, Cody Griffin, Aaronn Dineen, Victor Maduewesi,
David Olla, Eimhin Burns.

Every player played each game with great heart and tenacity, all the players interchanged positions in each game performing excellently with new members holding their own and showing the skills being honed in our brand new Hurling Alley throughout the year round summer and winter training programme. At this stage players have not got set positions but like to try out different positions and we are glad to accomadate.

It was a great turn out for the Club during the year and good to see so many new faces proundly representing the Club for the first time. The able support from their parents is a great sign going forward with the good work done laying foundations for the future. I would encourage any parent to get involved as we always have hurleys available and basically we need the extra set of eyes to watch the action and help/reassure players that even Henry Sheeflin or Ken Mcgrath started as they are doing and through practice with “Hurling Homework”.

I would appeal to the newer parents think of bringing your child to learn our national sport and bring your 5/6 yr old to see if he likes what we do on our astro turf and playing field when weather permitting. It could be the best decision to instill confidence, discipline and meeting new friends from School or Ferrybank area.

Special thanks to all the parents(especially the mothers and friends ) who get the kids to the venues throughout the year as we could not do this without your support. A special mention for the Ferrybank Boys & Girl’s School 1st/2nd/Senior & Junior infant class e.t.c which comprises the majority of the team and the good discipline and teamwork shown is a credit to their parents and teachers Ms. Doolin, Ms. Ryan (Boys) School, Mr. Ger Duggan and the Girls School (Ms. Egan/Ms.Quinlan/Ms. Walsh/Ms.Fogarty – mentors involved in this core group of up and coming talented players. Coaches on the sideline for the year have been John Haley, Fintan Byrne, Dave Butler, John Burns.

Each week a Player profile will be done to enlighten readers about their Club Senior players of the future and their concerns. Unfortunately this promising player left the club recently for Australia with his parents like the wild geese:
