Our Under 16 Footballers played a Dunhill/Fenor/Bulterstown combination last night in a county championship game in Fenor. In the championship so far the Slip boys have won one and then received a walk over from Lismore.
The game opened brightly for Ferrybank as Kevin Hurley dominated the game from centre forward scoring 9 points in all, most from play. Sam Lawless and Greg Murphy chipped in during this period with a score each. The opposition hit back in the latter part of the first half to lead 7 points to 5 at half time.
The second half was a rip roaring game. Ferrybank defended well but poor use of the ball allowed the opposition to dominate possession. Kevin Hurley pulled the Slip lads back level aided by strong second half displays by Sam Lawless and Cormac Hefferan. Ferrybank then went a point head before D/F/B got a goal with minutes to go. Ferrybank pressed hard in the remaining time with the final whistle being blown as the ball hit the back of the net. Unfortunately for Ferrybank the goal was not allowed, but in fairness D/F/B did not deserve to lose this game.
The u 16 squad trains again on Friday night at 7pm and has a match on Monday evening V's Clashmore in the club grounds.
