MINOR COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!

Pride of place this week belongs to the Ferrybank minors who won the county championship after a 1-7 to 0-5 victory over An Ghaeltacht.From the throw in the lads put everything they had into the game fighting for every ball that came their way.In a tight first half it was nip and tuck all the way with points coming from Cormac O'Driscoll and Stephen O'Neill and Eric Corcoran.With An Ghaeltacht taking lead a long ball into the full forward line broke to Cormac Heffernan who then rattled the net with a well taken goal,this gave Ferrybank the lead going into the half time break on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-4.Ferrybank started the second half the way they finished the first hooking, blocking and making life difficult for there opponents.With scores in short supply it came down to who took thier chances,with some poor shooting from both sides Cormac O'Driscoll hit a super point to push the boys futher ahead,a few minutes later Damien Ahearn did the same after some excellent work from Martin Wickham and Cormac Heffernan.With An Ghaeltacht pushing for scores they could not find a way past Ferrybanks excellent defence.With a few minutes to go An Ghaeltacht came close when a thundering drive rattled the Ferrybank crossbar.It took all nearly 30 minutes for An Ghealtacht to get there first score of the second half when they were awarded a free from the 21 yard line,after a super save on the goal line from Shane O'Sullivan the ball found it's way over the crossbar.Deep into stoppage time Ferrybank were awarded a free and Cormac O'Driscoll sent the ball over the bar to seal the game for Ferrybank.The ball was pucked out and final whistle was blown and the first minor title was on it's way back to Ferrybank for the first time in over 30 years and captain Stephen O'Neill collected the cup.Best on the night for Ferrybank were Tommy "THE ROCK"Carew,Kevin Hurley,Colm Roche,Shane O'Sullivan,Cormac O'Driscoll,Stephen O'Neill,Eric Corcoran and Damien Ahearn and we would like to thank the huge support that travelled down to the match which really helped drive the lads on.Team: Seamus Burtchell,John Roche Tommy Carew Neil Weymess,Kevin Hurley Shane O'Sullivan Clom Roche,Cormac O'Driscoll Stephen O'Neill,D.J.
