HURLING/GAELIC FOOTBALL MATCH REPORTS FOR Under 5/6/7 YRS AT COMMERCIALS GAA CLUB,CLONMEL ON 27/9/08.

The Ferrybank Under 5/6/7 Panel Held their own against Commercials GAA Club, Clonmel over for a well anticipated away friendly. This was played on the Western Rd field in Clonmel on Saturday 27th September 2008 at 11.00am-12.30pm

Team: Kian Byrne, Adam O’Grady,Luke Butler, Jack Haley,Gavin Fox, Jack O’Brien-Moran, Dillion Smith,Trevor Madigan,Ben Fitzpatrick, Charlie Atkins,Hussian Smith,Noaise MacCathmhaoil,Reece Phelan,Jake Brophy,John Collins ,Gavin Peacock.

The players split into two groups of eight and played their part in truly epic matches against Commercials Gaa Club U-6/7 in a full game setting with markers assigned and game faces evident. The concentration and play was intense with little give and take for long periods in the first half from strong Ferrybank pressure which led to the first goal from which the whole team can take a clap on the back. During this period our goal keeper made numerous saves to deny Commercials GAA but an equalising goal was recorded just before half time from a strong shot from a midfield player. The second half started in a hectic pace. It was the first experience of this for many players under 5/6. It was a great turn out for the Club and good to see so many new faces proudly representing the Club wearing the colours for the first time with great support from their parents.

A second goal was scored followed by more and no further scores conceded but this galvanised the Ferrybank team with older heads leading the way to take control late on in the match which meant we stopped counting after five in the Hurling match.
The players took a well deserved break and then onto the Gaelic Football match against a different Fresh Commercials team which plays only Gealic Football which provided a sterner test with tired legs. The players reacted with strong pressure from the start and the Commercials team cracked under this pressure with no answeres conceding a hat full. A team award should be given for bravery and concentration as Ferrybank played each of four games with eight players against twelve in Hurling/Football with no submarines on the sidelines due to other engagements and illness. A special mention must be made of Reece Phelan number 20 who even-do receiving a head wound and seeing stars, dusted him-self down to rejoin the Gealic Football match after a collision. I am sure there would be a smile of pride from parents and grand parents watching saw a thrilling match played in fine spirit and if any relations passed on are viewing from on high, they would smile with pride seeing this new generation of Ferrybank players following in the traditions of the Club. A good togetherness is forming with this group and
Good ball skills were on show and each week sees better co-ordination from practice which will re-affirm the training given. Every challenge was clean and great heart was shown especially by our smaller participants. Playing for the first time. It was a team effort and everyone can take a clap on the back being able to express their excitement. Special thanks to all the parents (especially the mothers and
friends ) who got the kids to the venue and KFC afterwards as we could not do this without your support. A special mention for the Ferrybank Boys & Girl’s School 1st/2nd/Senior & Junior infant class e.t.c which comprises the majority of the team and the good discipline and teamwork shown is a credit to their parents and teachers Ms. Doolin and Ms. Ryan (Boys) School and the Girls School(Ms. Egan/Ms.Quinlan/Ms. Walsh/Ms.Fogarty – mentors involved in this core group of up and coming talented players.
