ABP sponsnored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

CAMOGIE:

Pride of place this week goes to the Ferrybank U12 Camogie team who defeated a gallant Lismore side in the final of the Supermac’s sponsored B league final in Butlerstown GAA grounds last Saturday afternoon. Throughout the game, each and every player contributed to the win, from goalie Lilly who pulled off two outstanding saves to keep her side ahead in the game to the forward line, where each player worked hard to repel a battling Lismore side who kept going to the final whistle. This is a deserved success for the team, who have come together over the last couple of years, and now the hard work is paying off. Joint captains Gracie May and Holly accepted the cup on behalf of the team, with Lily collecting the player of the match award. Behind every team lies good coaches, and special mention to Roisin, Aisling, Niall, Karen, who have brought the team on, improving their skill levels, striking, catching, and more importantly,  playing as a team. Well done to everyone, and the team went back to Supermacs for a well deserved treat, and thanks to all the parents and supporters who came along on the day and cheered on the girls. TEAM: Lilly, Tina, Holly, Aoibhe, Orlaith, Ria, Lucy, Gracie-May, Eve, Emily, Emma, Mia, Zoe, Annabelle, Tiffany, Zuzanna, Faye, Maeliosa. The Under 8 Camogie side made the trip to Dunhill last Saturday morning to play St Anne's in a couple of challenge games. A good morning was had by all, thanks to St Anne's for hosting. The Under 6 and 7 team played Erin’s Own in a blitz also on Saturday morning in a fun-filled sporting game. With an expanding number of Camogie girls getting involved, the future bodes well for the club.

Meanwhile beat of luck to Iona and Niamh and the Waterford Senior Camogie team that play Cork in Nowlan Park this coming Saturday July 26th at 5pm in the All-Ireland Senior Camogie semi-final.

SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP:

The Ferrybank Senior hurlers suffered their second defeat in this year’s JJ Kavanagh & Sons sponsored competition at Dungarvan GAA grounds last Saturday afternoon on a scoreline of 1-22 to 0-10.

On a wet miserable day for hurling, both sides found the conditions tough at times to play with the sliothar zipping along the greasy surface, and more often the ball ending up going over the line. An early score from Lismore was quickly cancelled out by a fine point from Shane Oates. Four points from Lismore opened up a gap, but a point from Mark O’ Brien kept the lads in touch. Ferrybank came into it, and further scores from Neil O’ Sullivan, Shane Oates, and Mark O’ Brien reduced it to 0-08 to 0-05 at the break.

Lismore started the second half stronger, registering five of the next six points. Points from RuaidhrĂ McGarrity and Mark O’ Brien kept the team in the hunt, but crucially Lismore went on a scoring blitz, hitting 1-08 without reply to run out worthy winners.

Despite being down a few key players, the lads kept battling, and hopefully they can have a few players available for selection where they play Mount Sion in Walsh Park this coming Friday in Walsh Park at 7:30pm.

JUNIOR HURLING:

Our Junior hurlers were narrowly defeated by St Mollerans last Sunday morning on a scoreline of 3-14 to 2-13. There was little to separate the sides, as Ferrybank held a 1-09 to 1-08 at the break, but two crucial goals from the Molleran’s gave them the points on the day.

MINOR HURLING:

The combined Ferrybank/St Saviours side played out an exciting draw with Passage last Wednesday with the sides locked at 3-15 to 5-09.

This was the sides first point in this year’s Championship, and next up is Clonea this coming Wednesday, July 23rd in St Saviours’ GAA grounds.
