KEARNEY’S CATERING HURLING LEAGUE:

The Senior hurlers defeated St. Molleran’s in their latest game in the Kearney’s Catering All-County Hurling league last Friday on a scoreline of 3-19 to 1-15.  Despite being short a number of players, plenty of game time was given to the younger players who will have benefitted from it. Early points from John Ahern and Ruaidhri McGarrity had Ferrybank on the board. The opening goal soon arrived when a long ball from John Ahern sailed all the way into the net. Ferrybank slowly got the upper hand, and further scores from Shane Oates (6), Luke Flynn, Fionn McGarrity, Sean Adeyemi, and Ruaidhri McGarrity had Ferrybank leading 1-12 to 0-06.

The second half started off very scrappy, with scores at a premium early on, as St. Mollerans benefitted with scores from placed balls to close the gap to five points. However, a fine second goal from Ruaidhri McGarrity extended the lead. Credit to St. Mollerans for battling away, and JoJo O’Driscoll on the goal pulled off three fine saves from close range that prevented St. Mollerans from raising a green flag. Points from Robbie Carew (2), Alex Kinsella, and a second goal from Ruaidhri McGarrity closed out the scoring for Ferrybank, and with the last play of the game, JoJo was finally beaten when a close-range shot got the better of him.

Next up for the team is a trip to play Tramore next Friday at 7:30pm in their final league game.

COUNTY DUTY:

Well done to Iona Heffernan, Niamh Aharnem and the Waterford Senior Camogie team that defeated Kilkenny in their opening game of this year’s All-Ireland Camogie Championship in Nowlan Park last Saturday. While it was hard luck to the Waterford U23 Camogie team, that lost narrowly to Kilkenny in Callan, with the team being coached by Paul Martin.
