INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Ferrybanks Intermediate Hurlers grinded out a hard fought win over a dogged Tramore side in the Intermediate Hurling Championship in Walsh Park yesterday on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-12. It was only in the closing stages that the team took the lead and claimed a vital two points. Despite missing a number of key players, Ferrybank had a good goal chance in the opening minutes when Luke Flynn burst through the Tramore defence, passed it over to John Ahern who's goalbound shot was well saved by the Tramore goalie. Tramore opened the scoring only for Mark O' Brien to level it up. Ferrybank hit a number of wides, and this gave Tramore confidence and they began to put over points of their own. Ferrybank struggled in the open half and despite Mark O' Brien keeping Ferrybank in the hunt with three more points, but Tramore built up a six point lead, before Eoin O' Neill scored a point on the stroke of half time to leave it 0-10 to 0-05 in Tramore's favour. In the second half, Ferrybank needed a good start and Mark O' Brien put over three points to reduce the gap to two points. Slowly but surely Ferrybank began to get on top, and despite Tramore scoring a point to lead by three, points from MJ Sutton(2), and Cormac O' Driscoll levelled it up entering the final seven minutes. Then John Ahern scored a goal, scoring from close range to put Ferrybank into the lead, and Luke Flynn extended the lead to four points. Another Tramore point reduced the gap to a goal, but points from Cormac O' Driscoll and Mark O' Brien ensured the win for Ferrybank. A much improved display in the second half from the team, but also the amount of wides Ferrybank hit will have to be re-adressed, as they know they will have to improve for the next Championship game which is against De La Salle on Saturday July 5th. TEAM: Robbie Carew, Damien Heffernan, Gary Coady, Seamus Burtchaeil, Andrew Heffernan, Damien Ahern, Shane Sullivan, MJ Sutton (-2), Mark O' Brien (-8), Eoin O' Neill (-1), Phil Blake, Luke Flynn(-1), Eric Corcoran, Cormac O' Driscoll(-2), John Ahern (1-0), Tommy Carew, Sam Lawless, Paul Martin, Alex Power, Dean Phelan, Martin Freeman.

UNDER 11 HURLING: Ferrybank Under 11 hurlers travelled to Kill last Friday night where they played St Marys. On a glorious night for hurling, Ferrybank started well, taking the lead when Eddie Daly found the net from a long range effort, but the lead didnt last long as St Marys levelled it up with a goal. Points were exchange between the sides, as Ferrybank began to get on top, but didnt take their chances, which proved there undoing in the opening half, with the teams going into the break level. We started the second half on top, and when Jake Butler found the net, but once again St Marys replied immeadiately with two goals. A pointed free kept Ferrybank in touch, and entering the closing minutes Shane Oates scored a goal to give us a grandstand finish, and virtually the last puck of the game, Shane hit the post from close range, and the chance went a begging and so did the game as St Marys ran out 4-2 to 3-2 winners. A great effort from the team, and were unlucky not to get something from it.
