MINOR HURLING:
Ferrybank's Minor Hurlers recorded a crucial win over Tramore tonight in Game 6 of the County Championship, keeping their hopes of qualifying or the quarter finals. An excellent second half performance from the players ensured the win on a scoreline of 2-19 to 2-8, despite missing a numbers of players through College and Injury. Tramore made the better start to the game opening up a three point lead, before Mark O' Brien replied with a point Shane Meagher reduced the gap with a point, but Tramore kept themselves ahead by putting over points. Mark O' Brien, John Ahern, Darryl Griffin kept Ferrybank in the hunt, and entering the final five minutes of the first half, Ferrybank turned a one point deficit into a three point lead with Robbie Carew, Mark O' Brien pointing to put Ferrybank into a 0-10 to 0-7 lead at half time. Early in the second half, Tramore got a goal to level it up, but three points from John Ahern, Mark O' Brien, William Tyler extended the lead, but a '21 yard free from Tramore went all the way to the net to level it up at 2-7 to 0-13. Ferrybank got over this set back, and John Ahern scored a good goal to open up a lead, a lead Ferrybank never looked back, and further points from Mark O' Brien, Darryl Griffin, John Ahern, and a second goal from John secured the win. A good win for the team, scoring 2-9 in the second half, and this win sets the team up for a winner takes all game against Portlaw, which will take place on Sunday Sept 22nd at 11:00am in Portlaw, where your support will be crucial to the team.
