JUNIOR FOOTBALL

Our Junior Footballers were defeated by Mt Sion  in the semi final of the John J Murphy sponsored competition on a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-9. Ferrybank missed a lot of scoring chances and were left to rue those misses at the final whistle. Ferrybank made a good start with four opening points through Sam Lawless(2), MJ Sutton, Marty Freeman and were in control, but Mt Sion replied with a point followed by a goal to level it up. Another Mt Sion point put them into the lead, but Luke Flynn replied with a point to level it up. Another Mt Sion goal put them into a three point lead, but despite been on top, Ferrybank were found guilty of some bad finishing. Two points from MJ Sutton, and one from James Murphy levelled the game up at half time. Mt Sion started stronger in the second half and registered two points, while Ferrybank found it hard to score. Greg Murphy reduced the gap with a score, but it was Ferrybank's only score in that half, and Mt Sion closed aout the game with another two points. No doubt this was a game Ferrybank could have won, but if you dont take your chances you dont win matches. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team. MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers recorded an excellent win away to Portlaw this morning, securing a place in the semi finals of the county championship on a scoreline of  4-17 to 2-11. The foundations of this win was laid in the first half, with 1-11 been scored from Ferrybank, with John Ahern scoring an early goal, and Mark O' Brien scoring 8 points, with Robbie Carew(-2) and Eoin Faulkner(-1) contributing to the scoreboard. Just before halftime, Portlaw got a lifeline with a goal from a penelty to reduce the gap to six points at the half way stage. Portlaw got a second goal early in the second half to leave it a three point game, but Ferrybank's response was impressive with John Ahern scoring his second goal and Mark O' Brien putting over two more points to extend the lead. Ferrybank defended well throughout the game, repelling any Portlaw attacks, and Eoin Faulkner capped a good display with goal number three, and the excellent John Ahern capped an excellent performance with his third goal and Ferrybanks fourth to seal an impressive display.
