JUNIOR HURLING:
Ferrybank Junior Hurlers qualified for the semi final of the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition with a deserved 0-12 to 0-10 win over Dunhill in Walsh Park this evening. An excellent second half performance from the team, ensured this win, conceeding only one point in that half. The opening half was evenly matched with the sides level on six occasions. MJ Farrelly opened the scoring with a good point, but it was quickly cancelled out with a Dunhill free. Oisin MacCathmhaoil put Ferrybank back in front with a point. Dunhill scored the next two points to take the lead, but Robbie Carew and a fine Jeff Lawless score put Ferrybank back into the lead. Goal chances were at a premium in the opening half, with neither goalkeeper tested. Dunhill went back into the lead, but scores from Robbie & Greg Murphy kept Ferrybank in the hunt. MJ Farrelly scored his second and Ferrybanks seventh point from an acute angle, but Dunhill finished the half that bit stronger and scored two points to lead by 0-9 to 0-7 at the break. The second half was a much tighter affair, with Ferrybanks defence marshalled by John Byrne, Hughie O' Neill, Aidan Sinnott defending superbly, repelling any Dunhill attacks, and that gave Ferrybank confidence. Early scores from Robbie Carew, and the impressive Jeff Lawless levelled up the game. Ferrybank began to get on top, using the ball well, and were rewarded with three successive points from Robbie Carew, opening up a three point lead. Dunhill reduced the gap to two points with five minutes to go. Dunhill threw everything at Ferrybank in the closing minutes, but the team held firm, and held out for a fully deserved win. A great team performance, with everyone playing their part in the win, and the team can look forward to the semi final with confidence, with their opponents yet to be confirmed. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night.
