JUNIOR FOOTBALL

Ferrybank Junior Footballers recorded a narrow one point win over Ballyduff Lower in tonights John J Murphy sponsored competition in Kilmeaden tonight on a scoreline of 0-8 to 1-4. A late Robbie Carew point won the game for Ferrybank. Played in tough weather conditions, Ferrybank aided with the breeze opened the scoring with points from Kevin Hurley and John Ahern, before Ballyduff replied with a point. Further points from Kevin and Sam Lawless extended the lead, but Ballyduff Lower pointed with a quick take free. As conditions worsened, with both sides guilty of poor passing, two Phil Blake points extended the Ferrybank lead to 0-6 to 0-3 when, just before half time a shot from the Ballyduff forward looped over Martin Freeman and into the net to leave it 0-6 to 1-3 at half time. Ballyduff started the second half on top, but didnt create any scoring chances, while John Treacy and Greg Murphy saw goalbound shots saved by the Ballyduff Goalkeeper. Ferrybank began to get a grip in the second half, but scores were hard to come, but a Sam Lawless point edged Ferrybank ahead. With about five minutes to go, Ballyduff Lower levelled the game with a point, and as the game entered its final minute, Robbie Carew gathered the ball, and a fine kick from about 25 yards out, went between the posts, and give Ferrybank the lead. One last Ballyduff Lower went a begging and Ferrybank recored a vital win. To be fair, Ferrybank deserved to win, creating some good goal chances, and missed some points, despite the poor conditions every player gave it their all, espically in the second half against the wind and driving rain.
