GAA NOTES

UNDER 6 & 8 HURLING: Our under 6 & 8 hurlers played Ballyragget in Ferrybank last night. Both underage teams played out of their skins today against fierce Kilkenny opponents Ballyragget. Both matches were very physical. Our under 6 dominated and edged ahead in the end. The under 8 game was a much tougher affair, but Ferrybank fought to the very end and never gave up. Well done lads, thanks for a great evening of hurling. The support from the crowd really spurned the kids on, and they thrived on it. As always thanks to the parents for their support as this is crucial. Thanks to Ballyragget who were excellent opponents, and showed great sportsmanship. We look forward to visiting Ballyragget for the return leg. With the new school year approaching, why not bring your child down to Ferrybank Gaa grounds, where the emphasis is placed on fun. It provides kids with the opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy themselves, in a controlled and safe environment. We would welcome any assistance from parents, who would loke to get involved. This is a great way to encourage your children to exercise. For further information please contact John Burns 087-8717039, Conor McGarrity 087-9087745, Brian Richards 086-3589859.

HELMET REQUIRMENTS: Please note to rule 4.2(1), rules of specification, in the 2011 edition of part 2 of the Gaa official guide. This has been amended to reflect a change in the rules on foot of motions passed at congress 2008 and 2011. It now reads "In all hurling games and hurling practice sessions, it is mandatory for all players to wear a helmet with a facial guard that meets the standard set out in IS:355 or other replacement standard as determined by the national standards authority of Ireland (NSAI)".
