JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Juniors Footballers recorded their first win in this years Eastern Football Championship with a comfortable win over St Pauls this afternoon on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-5. John Treacy opened the scoring in the opening minutes with a point from play, but St Pauls levelled matters moments later. From then on Ferrybank dominated play and possession during the first half and points from Phil Blake, Greg Murphy, and John Treacy extended the lead. Ferrybank ought to have been further ahead but some bad misses and overplay cost them a far healthier lead in the opening half, Just before half time Damien Walsh scored a good goal following some good passing, and John Byrne pointed on the stroke of half time to leave Ferrybank 1-6 to -1 ahead. Damien Walsh slotted over another point, before St Pauls scored two points in quick succession to reduce the deficit. Sam Lawless got on the scoresheet with a fine point, and Ferrybank could have got a second goal, but Darragh Reynolds saw his goalbound shot brillantly saved from the St Pauls goalie. Damien Walsh got his and Ferrybanks second when he raced through the St Pauls defence and dinked the ball over the St Pauls goalkeeper for an excellent goal. D.J. Magee saw his shot come back of the post, before Sam Lawless wrapped up the scoring from a free, to leave Ferrybank worthy winners. This result still leaves Ferrybank outside the semi final qualification spots, but with three games left to be played, there is six points available. Congratulations and well done to Damien Ahern and Cormac Heffernan who were on the Waterford Minor Hurling team that defeated Limerick in the Munster hurling Semi Final. Damien was playing a blinder at Full Back when he went off injured just before the end of the game. Lets hope it not to serious. Cormac was introduced into the forward line, and no doubt his presence had a huge effort in turning the game for the Deise lads, when it looked liked it was slipping away from them by setting up crucial scores, and scoring a super point on the run. Well done lads, and indeed the whole team.
