UNDER 14 CAMOIGE:
Our under Camoige team were defeated by Portlaw in the County championship final today in Cleaboy on a scoreline of 6-2 to 3-1. No doubt Portlaw were the better team on the day, having done the damage in the first half. Ferrybank never got going in the first half, and that it where Portlaw took advantage scoring four goals without reply, with two of the goals coming in side sixty seconds. Following a half time grilling by Shiner, Ferrybank came out all guns blazing and Iona Heffernan scored within four minutes of the restart to give the Villagers hope. A second goal from Niamh Ahearne reduced the deficit to 6 points, and a second goal from Iona via a deflection from the Portlaw goalkeeper brought the game back to a goal. With the crowd fully behind Ferrybank the momentum was with them, but cruelly Portlaw struck with two goals inside a minute to put daylight between the sides. Portlaw finished the stronger and put over two points, before Iona Heffernan put over a point, which was the final score of the game. In the end it was tough on Ferrybank as they had gone through the group unbeaten, but on the day it was Portlaws day and we say congratulations. Hard luck Ferrybank, but no doubt your turn will come. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team.
