INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers maintained their unbeaten record in this years Championship with a 4-11 to -4pt win over Mt Sion in Cleaboy tonight. With 9 points from ten, the lads have now reached the Quater final stage with one league game remaining in the group. Ferrybank got of to a very good start in tonights game with Chris Hoban opening the scoring with a point in the very first minute, and Eoin O' Neill doubled the lead a minute later. Chris Hoban extended the lead with a free from a acute angle. Cormac Heffernan got on the scoresheet after eight minutes with another point to lead four points to no score. In the ninth minute, Ferrybank got their first goal, a super pass from Chris Hoban found Damien Walsh and the full forward blasted the ball to the net, giving the Mt Sion keeper no chance. Ferrybank were now in control of the game and had a couple of chances to extend their lead, which was extended with two quick points from Cormac Heffernan and Mark Russell. On the stroke of half time Mt Sion registered their first score with a point from a free, leaving the half time score 1-6 to -1 in favour of the Village lads. Any hopes of a Mt Sion comeback were evaporated at the start of the second half with Damien Ahern pointing, and Mark Russell getting a second following a great solo run. Sean Flynn in the Ferrybank goal pulled of a great double save to keep another clean sheet. Point from Sam Lawless increased the lead before Mt Sion put two points over, but in the 45th minute Cormac Heffernan got Ferrybanks third with a mazy run before rifling the sliothar into the net. Points from Chris Hoban(2) and Sam Lawless increased the lead, and Eoin O' Neill got the final score on the night with a bullet of a strike on his left side which screamed into the top corner of the Mt Sion net. This was a good performance from the team, and they showed good passage of play during the game using the ball well and finding their men, which resulted in some very good scores been taken. No doubt the selectors would have been pleased with the performance. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night. UNDER 14 HURLING: Our Under 14 Hurlers are in Quater final action this Saturday June 18th in Abbeyside where they play An Gaeltacht at 2pm. This will be a tough test for the team, and no doubt will give it their best shot. Your support will be vital for the team, so please come along and support the team on the day.
JUNIOR HURLING: Our Junior Hurlers were defeated by Eirns Own on Wednesday night in Poleberry on a scoreline of 2-10 to -6pts. Eirns Own got the two goals at crucial stages which turned the game in their favour and ran out ready winners in the end. Despite been short a few players on the day, the lads worked hard on the night but came short on the night. Next game for the Juniors is Friday July 8th away to Dunhill at 7:30pm.
GOLF CLASSIC: Best of luck to all who are competing in the Gerry Ryan memorial Golf Classic tomorrow at the Waterford Golf Club. Lets hope the weather stays fine for the day, and dont forget the evening session will then follow at the Golf Club with music from Pat Cooney and friends, raffle with some fantastic prizes on offer, and free transport to and from Flynns Bar at 9pm. So all in all a super day lies ahead.
