GAA NOTES

UNDER 14 HURLING: Our under 14 hurlers got back to winning ways last Wednesday night in this years county championship following a last gasp goal from David Atkins against a gallant Butlerstown. It was an exciting game, but in fairness Ferrybank should have had the game wrapped up, well before the end, as we dominated most of the play, but yet again our finishing left us down, along with some great goalkeeping by the Butlerstown goalie. We had big performances from David English, Paul Carew, John Hickey, David Atkins, Alex Grant. Jono Brown was excellent putting in a man of the match performance around the middle of the field. Butlerstown will feel very unlucky not to have taken anything from this game, losing a five point lead in the last few minutes, however fair play to Ferrybank who never gave in, and even though they looked beaten they kept plugging away and got the result in the end. TEAM: Jack Wicks, Shane Meagher(-1), Issac Power, Tiernan Morrissey, Alex Hughes, David English, Jono Brown(1-1), Darryl Griffin, David Atkins(3-2), Paul Carew, Cameron Wells, Alex Grant, Kyle Malone, John Hickey(-2), Andrew Whelan, Mark Whittle.

Our next game is this Monday night May 16th away to Clashmore at 7:30pm. There will be a bus leaving Ferrybank at 6pm. Up to 20 seats are available for supporters. Please contact Brian Hickey on 086-6090162, first come first serve. Cost of Busis five euro's. We will probably stop in shop/ Mc Donalds on the way back, so you might bring some pocket money. Bus will return to Ferrybank Gaa Field at 10:15pm approx.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers were well defeated last Thursday night in Kilmac on a scoreline of 3-17 to 2-5. This was the teams second defeat in this years competition. On the night Ferrybank were beaten fair and square by a superior team. Despite missing a host of players, Ferrybank found the going tough espically in the first half where they found themselves 3-7 to -3pts at the half way stage. Ferrybank improved a lot in the second half and worked harder and Greg Murphy got their first goal, which was quickly followed by a second from Brian Bartley. But Kilmac put another few points on the board to run out decesive winners in the end. Our next game is against Mt Sion on Friday May 27th in Ferrybank at 7:30pm. TEAM: James Murphy, Darragh Reynolds, John Treacy, Pat O' Neill, Colm Roche, Gary Coady, Tommy Carew, Phil Blake(-1), John Byrne, Sam Lawless(-1), Greg Murphy(1-3), Cormac O' Driscoll, Eddie Byrne, Jason Hennessey,Marty Freeman, Brian Bartley(1-0).

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers played Killenaule of Tip in Carrick last Friday night in a challenge game, and following a good game of hurling it was the Tipp side who emerged winners on a scoreline of 5-12 to 3-13. Missing a few regulars for the game, the lads performed with credit and played some good hurling at times, which yieled some very good scores espically in the second half. Trailling 3-7 to -6pts at half time, Ferrybank will be disappointed with some of the goals conceeded in that first half, in which their was very little between the sides. In the second half Ferrybanks passing improved, and took some very good scores with goals from James Murphy, Chris Hoban, and Phil Blake(against his old club). Overall this was a good workout from the team, and no doubt it puts them in good shape for their next game which is next Friday May 20th in Fenor at 7:30pm against Tramore in the championship. TEAM: Marty Freeman, Pat O' Neill, Damien Heffernan(-1), Tommy Carew, Andrew Heffernan, Gary Coady, Shane Sullivan(-1), Phil Blake(1-2), Paul Martin, Sam Lawless(-1), Chris Hoban(1-0), Cormac O' Driscoll(-6), James Murphy(1-0), Cormac O' Meara, Seamus Burchill(-1), Eoin O' Neill(-1), Kevin Hurley.

UNDER 16 HURLING: Our under 16 hurlers defeated Passage in the replay of the under 16 Eastern division 2 in Walsh Park this morning on a scoreline of 4-9 to 2-6. This was an outstanding performance from all the players concerned with every player giving it all for the Jersey. The defence tightened up considerably for todays game, which was crucial in the end as they had been leaking goals throughout the competition. Credit to the management team of Mick Sutton, Foxy Carew, Paul Sutton who have worked hard with the team during the season and their hard work have paid of. Well done to the team.
