INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate hurlers played Ballyduff in their opening game of the 2011 Intermediate Hurling championship in Dunhill last night, and following a tense game of Hurling, it was the Villagers who emerged winners on a scoreline of 1-11 to -11pts. The game was barely two minutes old , when corner forward Mark Drennan suffered a serious knee injury, and following a lengthy delay was taken away by ambulance to the Waterford Regional hospital for an x-ray on the knee. When the game restarted Ballyduff opened the scoring with a free, but Eoin O' Neill responed with a well taken score. Ballyduff got the next three scores to open a 3 point lead, but points from Phil Blake and Cormac O' Driscoll reduced the gap to a point. Sam Lawless was unlucky to see his goal bound shot well saved by the Ballyduff keeper. At half time Ballyduff lead by -4 pts to -3. At the start of the second half Ferrybank upped the tempo and points from Cormac O' Driscoll put Ferrybank bank into the lead. However the crucial score of the game arrived in the 37 minute when Chris Hoban blasted the ball to the Ballyduff net from the 21 to put Ferrybank four points clear. This no doubt gave Ferrybank a huge lift, and each time Ballyduff came back, Ferrybank responed with super points from Tommy Carew, Chris Hoban and Cormac O' Driscoll. In the final few minutes Ballyduff threw everything at the Ferrybank defence, but credit to them as they fought well for the ball, and didnt conceed anything silly as the final whistle blew. Overall this was a deserved win for Ferrybank as they worked hard as a team, and everyone played their part for the win, espically losing Mark so early in the game. Thanks to all who came along to support the team, it was great to see so many there to lend their support. Our next game is next Saturday 30th April at 2pm in Walsh Park against Eirns Own.
