GAA NOTES
UNDER 21 HURLING: Our under 21 hurlers defeated St Saviours in Mt Sion tonight on a scoreline line of 2-12 to 1-9, and therefore moved into the semi finals of the under 21 (B) Eastern hurling championship. Ferrybank got of to a good start with Greg Murphy kicking the ball to the net in the opening minutes, and Greg pointed staight away to open up a four point lead. Saviours put over two points to reduce the deficit, but points from Colm Roche (2) and Mark Russell kept us in the lead. At half time Ferrybank lead by 1-4 to -5 points, no doubt they should have been further ahead. Quick points at the start of the second half from Mark Russell(2) and Stephen O' Neill put daylight between the sides, but credit to St Saviours as they kept battling away to keep themselves in the hunt as the match entered its closing stages. Further points from Cormac O' Driscoll(2) and Shane O' Sullivan kept the scoreboard ticking over, before a goal from Colm Roche eased the nerves of the players and supporters in the last ten minutes put us seven points clear. Late scores from Damien Ahern and Mark Russell completed our scoring, before St Saviours got a goal with the last puck of the game. A good win for Ferrybank in the end, but to be fair they had plenty of chances to get scores which went a begging, and no doubt stiffer test lies ahead in the Semi final. Thanks to all who came and supported the team.
