ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

ANGELA BURNS MEMORIAL:

The 2021 Angela Burns Memorial will go virtual this year, and it will take place over the upcoming June Bank holiday weekend from Friday 4th to June 7th.

With COVID-19 putting a spanner in the works, many similar events this year have gone virtual, so keeping this tradition tipping away, we are asking all people from inside and outside of the club to get involved and participate in a run, walk, jog, cycle of any route and distance of their choice.

This year, proceeds will go to the local Ferrybank St. Vincent de Paul, who have been badly hit for funds over the last 12 months and we are delighted to contribute to such a worthy cause. People can donate whatever they like, by either registering online at totaltiming.ie, where those who do register will be in with the chance to win some spot prizes, or, by dropping it into the Ferrybank Parish Office c/o Angela S.V.P.

Therefore, we are appealing to the Ferrybank diaspora around the country, and indeed worldwide, to take part by registering for the occasion, and send in their photos to ferrybankgaa@gmail.com. Also, people here taking part can send in their pictures as well over the dates in question. Keep an eye on www.facebook.com/AngelaBurnsMemorial10k for further information.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:

Our Intermediate hurlers will play Dunhill and St. Molleran’s in this year’s Championship. The winners of this group will go directly into the quarter-finals, along with the three other group winners, as a seeded team, while the second and third placed teams will enter the qualifiers’ section.

August 29th is the provisional date for the start of the championship.

JUNIOR HURLING:

Our Junior C Hurlers have been drawn with Butlerstown, Clonea and Tramore. Depending on your finishing position, you will play another team from Group 1 in the knockout stages.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:

Our Junior Footballers have been drawn with Butlerstown and Mount Sion in this year’s competition, with the group winners going straight into the semi-finals. More than likely this competition won’t be starting until late autumn.

CAMOGIE COMPETITION:

Congratulations to Breda Dwyer who was the winner of the Apple Air Pods competition which was run by the Camogie club over the last number of weeks. A huge thanks to everyone who entered the draw, with the proceeds raised going
towards the running of the Ferrybank Camogie Club.

UNDER 15 HURLING:

The U15 hurlers will start their season on Wednesday June 9th at home to Clonea at 7pm.

UNDER 12 HURLING:

Our U12 hurlers will commence their campaign on Saturday June 12th with a home match against Clan Na Gael at 4:30pm, with other games to come in the group against De La Salle, St. Saviour’s, Ballygunner, Clonea and St. Mary’s.

COUNTY DUTY:

It was a busy weekend for some of our players, who were on county duty for Waterford teams. Hard luck to Iona Heffernan, Helen Connolly and their coach John Burns who were part of the Waterford Senior Camogie team that were defeated by Tipperary in Clonmel last Saturday afternoon. Let’s hope they can get back to winning ways this coming Saturday where they play Cork.

While, no joy for Niamh Ahearne and Valerie O' Brien who were part of the Waterford Junior Camogie team that were defeated away to Clare also last Saturday.

Lastly, well done to Mark O' Brien and the Waterford Senior hurling team that defeated Limerick in Walsh Park last Sunday afternoon.

CLOTHING COLLECTION:

The clothing collection is continuing. If you have any of the following items, drop them down to the GAA grounds;

- Clothes

- Paired Shoes

- Belts

Please do NOT send down any DUVETS OR PILLOWS.

Bags can be left at the entrance to the club's grounds on a weeknight, or between 10 am and 11 am on Saturday mornings.

DÉISE DRAW:

The 2021 Déise Draw will commence in July and will run until December, with six draws taking place. Each draw will cost €15, and once again, similar to last year, there will be twenty cash prizes up for grabs, with the top prize €10,000.

Again, we would appeal to everyone associated with the club to get involved and purchase a Déise Draw ticket for the year ahead, as 70% of the ticket sales are retained by the club, and this money goes towards the day-to-day running of the club.
