PEADAR’S SUMMER CAMP:
The summer camp gets underway today, running until Friday
July 20th from 10am to 2pm each day. This is the 27th year
of Ireland’s oldest summer camp. Once again, a huge thanks to Ray Breen and his
staff from Kel-Teach engineering for his kind and generous sponsorship.
The week itself, consists of learning and practising the
skills of our national game, and will include a tournament. Also, as the week
goes on, a few special guest stars will pop into the field and give a few tips
on the game. With the forecast good for the week, a huge crowd is expected to
turn up, and we wish all the crew who have volunteered to come on board, the
best of luck to all.
Also, if you’re popping down to socialise at the summer
camp, then why not clean out some of your clutter at home and help Ferrybank
GAA club at the same time!? Our clothing collection still continues and if you
have any of the following items that you don’t need, you can drop the down to
the GAA grounds; paired shoes, clothes, belts, curtains, soft toys, mobile phones
and laptops (mobile phone and laptop to be kept separately from clothes items).
All Bags must be tied, no duvets or no pillows please.
UNDER 12 HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Under 12 hurlers bowed out of the Division 1 City
League at the semi-final stage in Cleaboy last Friday night where they were
defeated by Mount Sion on a score-line of 4-11 to 1-06. Four goals either side
of half-time was the difference between the sides.
Mount Sion made the brighter start with two points, but Ferrybank
replied swiftly, with Conor Haley and Jay Bagge scoring fine points. Three more
unanswered points put Mount Sion clear, but again Ferrybank came back with a
goal of their own where Conor Haley picked up on a loose ball and slotted the
sliothar to the net. This gave the side confidence and they matched their
opponents all over the field, with Conor Daly putting over a point. With
nothing between the sides another Jay Bagge point had the two teams level
coming up to half-time. However, right on the stroke of the half-time whistle, Mount
Sion struck for a vital goal, ensuring a 1-08 to 1-04 lead at the break.
Another early Mount Sion goal at the start of the second-half,
had them in control. Crucially, Conor Haley’s goal bound effort was blocked on
the line and Mount Sion went down the field to score number three, and a minute
later scored number four.
Credit to the lads, as they fought to the end with Caolan
MacCathmhaoil and the excellent Sean Akafemi scoring fine points from long
range. However it wasn’t to be as Mount Sion ran out worthy winners on the
night.
No doubt the lads gave it their all and the score-line didn’t
do justice on the night. The future bodes well with this current bunch of
players.
