ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Club Notes

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Our Junior Footballers recorded a valuable win over Roanmore in Cleaboy last Friday night in their John J Murphy sponsored championship clash; winning on a score-line of 1-12 to 3-05.
The lads had to survive a late comeback from their hosts in order to claim the two points. With the wind at their backs in the opening half, Ferrybank opened the scoring with a fine Tommy Carew point, but Roanmore levelled in up moments later. Cormac O' Driscoll regained the lead with a point, but again, Roanmore levelled it up with a close range free. From there on, Ferrybank began to control the play and got rewarded with points from Luke Flynn (2), Sam Lawless, Kevin Hurley and Naoise MacCathmhaoil. Going in at the half-time break Ferrybank led 0-07 to 0-02.
Roanmore got off to a flying start with a goal in the opening minute, but credit to the team with the response of points from Sam (2) and Kevin to open a four point lead. Greg Murphy had a glorious chance of a goal, when his shot from close range was somehow saved by the leg of the Roanmore goalie. Moments later though, a fine passing move was rewarded, when Tiernan Morrissey popped up in the full-forward position and calmly slotted the ball to the net to open a seven point lead.
However, a couple of minutes later, all the hard work was undone, as Roanmore replied with a goal of their own. With the game in the balance, Ferrybank kept playing, and Kevin Hurley put over two fine scores to extend the lead. With time almost up, a high ball into the Ferrybank area was punched to the net to reduce the gap to the minimum, but Ferrybank held their nerve in those final few minutes to see it out.
A good display from the team, with plenty of scoring chances that went a begging but the team played some good Football over the sixty minutes.
